What I did for beer today

I brewed an APA yesterday, 7 gal into the fermenter. Used a repitch of a Chico 1056 Yeast about 6th generation. I made a starter with 1.020 wort but it took over night to get going. I believe that was caused by the temperature of the wort was too cool resulting in the lag time. However after...

What I did for beer today

I picked the first six tap handles for my new to me beer kegerator. The tap will represent the style on tap. I try to keep a variety on hand. This new kegerator is gonna be a big help. It's gonna replace 3 other refrigerators and a single kegerator. Yeah yeah I know there is 2 Red Hook...

How many gallons brewed in 2024?

IMO you should be counted. It's a major part of the process and it requires the basic beer making task.

What I did for beer today

I bought a used 6 tap kegerator to replace my 3 units that make up my back bar. It is all going through a major change to make it more user friendly. This kegerator came with 6 taps, regulator and new beer and CO2 lines. Gonna pressure wash it inside and out then paint the exterior before I put...

What came in the mail for you today?

Haven't posted here for while. Most mail order shipments are ingredients and an occasional piece of equipment. But today I received an ingredient that I am particularly interested in using. Rum barrel chips. I intend to brew a porter that will relic a pint of porter featuring a shot of Coffee...

One book to rule them all

Good advice above and I too will suggest John Palmers The Complete Joy off Homebrewing as your first read. It is a detailed guide to learning the basics to mid-range brewing. The more research you do the better prepared you will be to begin your brewing experience. You are not gonna be an expert...

What I did for beer today

That sounds delicious and it inspired me to try a way of getting dark rum flavor in a porter. It could be done using barrel chips from an aged rum barrel. Thanks for the inspiration.

What I did for beer today

Actually what I did yesterday. I brewed a batch of one of my favorites, a Czeck Pilsner. I always do a triple decoction mash but this time I took it a step further and boiled the decorations in a pressure cooker. I have been reading that doing so reduces the involved time with doing the...

    Pressure cooker decoction mashing

I enjoy doing decoction mashes with various lagers and pilsners. I have been readying about decoction mashing in a pressure cooker. The process sounds like it saves times and promotes a better decoction without the necessary stirring while boiling with no risk of scorching. I am brewing another...
