Friend or foe? Bug ID assistance needed

Thats the larvae of the Eastern Comma Butterfly and he will eat the **** out of your leaves. It needs to be terminated ASAP!!! Chances are good you have eggs under leaves. They look like little green pearls in clusters. Google images will help and they need to go!!!!

    Question about shoots?

I'm more than sure it was no bird. Birds are good, they eat bugs that eat hops. I would check your plants for small caterpillars or moth larvae. Good luck

Too Late for Hops this Season

Great Lake Hops sells fully rooted plants on-line. Better than rhizomes by far and a superior company. Never to late to plant if you're looking to at the very least get a garden established.

2015 : Anyone have their hops growing yet?

I remove the gages in the winter after the bines die back late fall. I then cut the bines to ground level, spread manure and compost over, and then cover with a heavy layer of straw. No issues with rust, have had the cages for years.

    Frost?

My bines are over 8 feet and there is a chance of frost tonight here in upstate NY. I know hops are hardy but can they withstand the frost? I have no way to cover all of them at this height. Any feedback appreciated!

2015 : Anyone have their hops growing yet?

Here in Upstate New York my second year Chinooks have reached the top of the cages and begun their journey up the twine. Still amazed how fast they grow.

    managing pests

Simple natural soap/water mix works great on aphids. Dries the little @&$%# up! I used it all last season with great success. Just two tablespoons per your average spray bottle. Just be conscious of not spraying in full sun.

    Mysterious Death of Leaves

Might be overwatering. How often, especially if they are inside? 75 is not to hot either, hops love the sun and heat, just need to monitor the soil in summer when it gets real hot.

Second Year Hops on 4 ropes per plant

I run 4 bines per plant with good success. Seeing that you have second year plants, I would go ahead and train all the lines you set up. This is my setup. Once at the top they start to loop around one another as the make their way over to the trellis. The only problem I have with this is at...

Staring hop crowns in pots. Good or bad idea

I received a couple of hop crowns from Great Lakes Hops. The weather in the Northeast is still way to cold and the ground not even close to being workable. I'm therefore contemplating staring these babies in pots to let them get a head start and then transplant them into the garden when the...

Score! Thanks man. Crazy how hard it is to come by these gaskets. Surely they must be sold somewhere

    2L Palla growler replacement gasket?

Tried Northern and they don't carry the gasket. Anyone else have an idea. Thanks!

    2L Palla growler replacement gasket?

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement gasket for a Palla style swing top growler? I've searched all over to no avail. Plenty out there for EZ bottles and the large handle growler gaskets but nothing for Palla size. Any help would be much appreciated!
