Your hydrometer may need calibration. What was the temp when you took a reading?

It sounds like your fermentation was going fine. Give the yeast some time to finish doing it's thing and check your FG when it's closer to bottling time.

Good analogy!! Anyway, I have never done a kit beer but I seem to recall Charlie Papazian saying something like you should always boil (even the no boil kits).

I wouldn't mess about with it any more than you have to. Low 70's will be fine. RDWHAHB:D

White Labs only recommend making a starer if the gravity is over 1.070 or past it's expiration date.

I use the oxy verisitle, with a dishwasher rinse (no soap or jet dry), and then star san. I've had no problems.

I've had luck with steeping about 1/2 lb of (freshly ground) coffee at flame out for about 5-10 minutes.

I do the same except I use Star San and I have yet to have any problems
