    Starter OG = 1.040, 48 hrs later on stir plate FG = 1.040 .. WLP500

An update and follow up question... First of all, alas the wort was unfermented and the yeasties had not began to dance. After only about 3-4 hours longer than I had it on the stir-plate before, I finally started to see classic yeast fermentation bubbles. I must have just taken it off the...

Here's the FG reading, just to remove any potential suspicion... :o

    Starter OG = 1.040, 48 hrs later on stir plate FG = 1.040 .. WLP500

Thanks everyone for the input. No matter the outcome, I will be sure and post the results as the reason for posting is initially for solutions/advice... but ultimately posting helps educate the community. Here's how I decided to respond: Because I was so confident that all was okay after...

    Starter OG = 1.040, 48 hrs later on stir plate FG = 1.040 .. WLP500

It tasted very sweet, indeed. :/ The FG reading was a conservative one, really it may have even been a couple points higher. I just can't explain how I got so much slurry. If I add any more time on the stirplate (I'm whipping up another batch of wort at this very moment) I'll be encroaching...

    Starter OG = 1.040, 48 hrs later on stir plate FG = 1.040 .. WLP500

Does that not look like a healthy slurry of yeast?

    Starter OG = 1.040, 48 hrs later on stir plate FG = 1.040 .. WLP500

Hello all! A few days ago I set up a 1.040 starter using a 2 month old (1st gen, from the lab) vial of WLP500, assumed to be at about 55% viability. Set up the wort just like all starters before (2L solution w/ DME + DAP), got the temperatures right before pitching--at about 71F (+/- 1 degree)...

5 QUESTIONS: Racked 4 gal of beer on 1 gal starsan solution in keg -- can I fix it?

Lawl. Back from the dead and I suppose it's time to nightcap this one. Sorry to disappoint but there was no medical emergency nor explosive GI blowouts.. I ended up slowly bringing the temp down below freezing until enough of a layer of ice existed at the top of the keg to easily remove...

5 QUESTIONS: Racked 4 gal of beer on 1 gal starsan solution in keg -- can I fix it?

Sorry I wasn't as clear about my plan, although I was just meaning to get some knowledge as to the relationship between starsan and haziness. Anywho, if I can indeed get the extra water content out, then I'm considering adding another batch to it... at which point the amount of starsan in...

Foam control being sucked down vortex on stir plate!?

I have a 2L starter filled up to 1600mL that's been on the stir plate for about 24 hours with a nice 2 inch high krausen on top. I decided to experiment and dropped a single drop of foam control on top. Within 5 minutes the foam dropped completely to where the surface of the wort was...

5 QUESTIONS: Racked 4 gal of beer on 1 gal starsan solution in keg -- can I fix it?

Since I have nothing to lose, I am going to give the freeze method a go. If anything I can remove the watered-down nature of what's in the keg. Starsan is supposed to be flavorless, but I don't know about that... Given the foaming characteristic of starsan, do you think this will affect the...

5 QUESTIONS: Racked 4 gal of beer on 1 gal starsan solution in keg -- can I fix it?

I very much appreciate all your replies! Does anyone happen to know if anything in star-san breaks down in solution over time into some other make-up?

5 QUESTIONS: Racked 4 gal of beer on 1 gal starsan solution in keg -- can I fix it?

Yeah the more I think about it, the more I'm accepting that this will be my first dump. With that said, I would still like to get some help with some of these questions just for future reference... Thanks.

5 QUESTIONS: Racked 4 gal of beer on 1 gal starsan solution in keg -- can I fix it?

Hello, I've been homebrewing for about a year now, and tonight I have made my biggest mistake to date. I left somewhere between 0.75 and 1.25 gallons (probably closer to 1 gallon, really) of a properly diluted starsan solution in my 5 gallon corny keg before racking my lager on top of it. I...

Infectious yeast in beer from keg to bottle after freeze-killing?!

My apologizes for the lack of detail.. Two days before kegging, while still in the fermenter, sudden activity restarted again after doing nothing for over a month (regular yeast fermentation had long since finished). Temperature didn't change or anything, so I'm assuming something got in...

Infectious yeast in beer from keg to bottle after freeze-killing?!

Hello all! I very recently ran into a possible infection a couple days before planning on kegging/bottling a 1.055 OG beer. The idea was I wanted to keg half (immediate enjoyment!) and bottle the other half (agerific!). Well, of course, I threw it all into a keg because of the possible gusher...
