    building my own 1 barrel, single tier brewstand with controller

    My brother and I are looking at doing the same project as OP but the question we keep adding ourselves is go gas or electric? Right now we're just doing 15gal brews using propane and it works fine however when we move up to one barrel and Beyond does electric make more sense?

    I took another reading today with my hydrometer. The gravity fell to 1.040 which I calculate to be 10.74% ABV. I believe I am on the right track. Thank all of you for the advice.

    I appreciate the link but since my first measurement was with a hydrometer and my last measurement was with a refractometer I am unsure of the accuracy.

    Thank you for the reply. Being as this is my first batch I figured I was being a bit anxious! I will measure gravity again tomorrow. Regarding using a refractometer, would the reading be higher or lower once fermentation begins?

    Quick update. I did a quick gravity test, I started at 1.120 and today I am at 1.109. I get a bubble in the airlock every 5~7 seconds. Am I on the right track?

    Hi Arpolis, how do you go about finding this information on Yeast? I am a couple days in my first ever mead and I used D47 as well. We've had some hot days and after your statement I am convinced I am going to have a hot mead. Are there any yeasts that "enjoy" hotter weather?

    Please let me know if my thought process is wrong I am making a 3 gallon batch using Lalvin D-47. I used the calculator here http://www.gotmead.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=745&Itemid=16 And used a target gravity 14% and target volume of 3 gallons. It spit out 8.9lbs of honey...
