Best single addition to your brew day procedure

I'm also going to cheat and give two. First, making a yeast starter for every brew. Fermentation takes off so much faster, and finishes up faster as well, and it doesn't take more than 15-20 minutes to get a starter going. Even for the low OG brews, I still like using one. Second, kegging...

You have room for 2 or 3 brewing books on your shelf...

The Complete Joy of Homebrewing: A bit dated and a bit longwinded at times, but Papazian has a ton of great information about brewing, some good humor, and it doesn't hurt that he's a fellow Armenian! Designing Great Beers: An excellent resource for AG brewing, and with a little work, you can...

    WLP670 - American Farmhouse

Hi folks, So I'm going to be spending about two months out of the country this summer, and I'm hoping to brew a Saison in late May (take advantage of warmer temps) and let it ferment all summer until I get home. I've got a few questions about White Labs 670 - American Farmhouse Blend. I'm...

    2012 nugget nectar?

Just found it at the Barrel and the Bottle in the North Market in Columbus. Innocent bystanders may have been bowled over in the process of getting a six pack...

    Johnson Thermostat Installation

I'm hoping to tap the collective diy/kegerator knowledge with this thread. I'm building a kegerator out of a magic chef 4.4cu. ft. minifridge. I'm getting ready to install a johnson thermostat, and was wondering where/how everyone went about mounting their temperature probes. I've seen them...

    Brewery names--what's your story?

Fairthorn Brewing Company: One of the houses that I grew up in is named Fairthorn. It's a 200+ year old farmhouse in what used to be rural countryside. I like to think that back when it was all farmland, someone turned extra crop into beer in the same place that I started brewing.

    Keg or Bottles

I just started kegging after Christmas, and I don't see ever going back. The convenience that comes with kegging (once you have the setup) just can't be beat by bottles. I do miss some of the portability that comes from bottling, but I've got plans to invest in some sort of home-made beer gun...

This is excellent, thanks for posting. Been looking for a profile on the water here in Cbus for a while.

    Currently Available Fridges

Yeah, that is a pretty steep price. Ideally, I'd like to fit two cornys and a co2 cylinder, but I could certainly settle for one and some bottle space if that's going to be more feasible.

    Currently Available Fridges

I'm hoping to tap into everyone's collective knowledge regarding kegerator builds. I've decided to take the plunge and start kegging my homebrew, and I need to start a kegerator build. Sadly, my minifridge from college is but a few inches too short to hold a corny keg, and I'll need to get a...

    Red/Smoke Ale Partial Critique

Damn, you're right. I left off 4lbs of Extra Light DME. I was wondering about the amount of smoked malt (definitely not peat!) to use. Thanks for the feedback!

    Red/Smoke Ale Partial Critique

I hope everyone's fall brewing is in full swing! I've got a Pumpkin Spiced Porter hanging out in my secondary right now, but I'm already itching to put another brew together. This time of year always makes me think of the warmth and smell of a fire on a cold fall day, so I got to thinking...
