To scoop out hot break or leave it?

I skimmed / scooped forever, but stopped recently (based on remarks here) and haven't noticed any consequence. It's pale foam 'cuz, with dark brews, I steep the dark grains and add the result well into the boil. Tastes a lot like malt, iirc.

    AI (Artificial Intelligence)

Woah, look at all those A/C units to dump into the sky most of the energy the place takes in. Has MS never heard of co-generation?

    Brewing room ideas

AIO almost always uses a proprietary controller and/or pump. Replacement is likely expensive if when failure occurs, and impossible if the maker has cratered. Modular approaches like @Bobby_M 's offer long term maintainability, with minimal connections/setup (in contrast with the complexity...

    1/4" Swivel-nut > 3mm EVABarrier > 6.35mm Monotight connector > Duotight Shank

I've read that some have success with certain pen caps.

Yes. You may want to practice a few times to get a feel for how soft to make the tubing. I've found it's good to only heat the ~2cm that will go on the barb, in very hot water. One stretching tool to consider is some pointy pliers.

Today, I'd probably go for one of these.

    Brewing room ideas

In theory, a super powerful, unregulated on demand unit (likely gas fired) could shorten your brew day. But a timer works for many electric brewers - their strike water is hot when they get out of bed.

Dry yeast sat on hops for 12 hours after pitching...

During the tail end of my glass carboy days decades, I'd fasten the top of a sanitized "hop sock" over the neck of the carboy with a hefty rubber band, pour in the marbles, and stuff in the hops. I believe the handle side of a wooden spoon was involved. Yesterday I was able to stuff 14 ounces...

Dry yeast sat on hops for 12 hours after pitching...

When I put whole hops in the fermenter, they go in a mesh bag with marbles to resist flotation. Of course, commando / free range hops probably contribute more flavor. Pellets sink better, but they can still create a green top layer when added near high krausen.

help there's a weird sediment in my keg beer

So these "crystals" settle fairly fast in a glass or pitcher but are picked up by the floating dip tube! That's especially unexpected, as you'd think they'd all be settled on the bottom of the keg some distance below, even if it's only 1/3 full now. Maybe also pictures of the crystals by...

    Brewing room ideas

My stoutpocalypse (broken glass carboy full of wort) years ago would've benefited from a floor drain. Except in such a bizarre situation, I don't find I miss it. But others are completely sold on the value of a floor drain, so...

    Brewing room ideas

I've found a 24x24 sink with drainboard and a pre-rinse with faucet like this one very helpful in my garage brewery. I got very good prices for these at a local cash-and-carry restaurant supply house. I did air venting with a DIY hood and Vortex fan, but today I might choose the steam slayer...

    In search of Scottishness

Something missing here, as this describes what we always do. Unless "significantly" means hugely.
