    ESB results!!

Hey everyone, I brewed up an ESB around christmas time, and I'm just about out of it now (saving one bottle for a school competition). I think it came out pretty tasty! Here's the recipe, and a picture below showing the nice clarity from the WY1469. Next time I think i'll use light extracts and...

    Mad River Pale Ale

Sorry for the late response guys, I haven't been on here nearly as much as I used to be. It turned out great! A lot of people really liked it, although some complained of too much bitterness (just right imo). Let me know if you brew it! It was my second brew ever and my first one developing the...

    Hop tea??

I've never done this, but you'll get better hop utilization since you'll be boiling em in a lower gravity liquid. For a IIPA, this would definitely help cut down on the obscene amount of hops needed.

    What style is this?

Sounds like a tasty american amber to me! As for the conditioning time, darker beers generally need a bit longer to mellow out and get really good.

    I hate wasting beer

This was going to be my suggestion, if youre concerned about saving a couple bucks per batch just pitch without a starter and wash it. You'll get many more batches out of one vial and it'll be easier to store than a big starter.

    Easy Pale Ale - Help

Looks decent to me, I made an APA pretty similar with those same hops (slightly lower OG) and it came out great! It won't be floral/earthy though... more citrusy/bright and clean with the hops and yeast you chose

    Growing Hops

The 'hops growing' forum or a search up top should give you some good information. I've never tried growing them myself, but a lot of people on here have success with it. I'd expect that long island would be a great climate for hops, but i'm not positive.

    Barley tea?

Not sure if this is has been discussed yet, i couldn't find it in a search.. but after reading about the antioxidant and antimicrobial power of barley, I decided to make up some barley tea with some medium crystal i had around. I mixed it with some green tea to help battle my cold, and it's...

    Wyeast 1469 - West Yorkshire

Funny, it seems like we made the same beer at the same time! mine was an extract version of this, with the simpsons medium, and also went from 1.050 to 1.011. After two weeks the krausen still hadn't completely fallen, so i gave it a couple gentle shakes and that took care of it. I tasted it...

    best head retention method?

ah yes my fault, my chem engineering roommate would be disappointed however, there are endless lists of chemicals that are fda approved that i wouldn't let anywhere near my beer. i'm sure its safe, otherwise they couldn't sell it, but i like to keep the extras to a minimum.

    best head retention method?

I use carapils, but I've never used any flaked grains so I can't say about that. I've also heard priming with muntons kreamyx works well for that purpose, but I also heard it contains propylene glycol (antifreeze! :cross:), so I'm afraid to try it.

    American Stout

I don't have AG experience, so I can't answer the sparge question, but this sure sounds tasty! The only thing I might do is save the last hop addition for dry hopping, but that's all personal preference.

    Smoked Porter recipe help

Id probably go for the flaked oats. It will add some nice body and mouthfeel similar to an oatmeal stout. I think it would be awesome in this recipe!

    Hops mix/blend

If you end up blending, maybe add them all to a ziplock and break up the pellets with a rolling pin and shake. That way, you would know you have an even mix and your ibus will be easier to match with the average aa.

Pale Ale Recipe - Please Critique

Sounds great to me! I made an apa similar to this over the summer but with simcoe/amarillo hops and it came out great. My og and ibus were about the same though and it was very balanced. I also used some biscuit malt that added a nice bready character. PS: Great name for a brewery!!!
