I did mix the sugar into the bottom of the bucket and I did use corn sugar in all batches. I waited at least 3 weeks before I opened them. The carbonation is a little inconsistent, but even the best carbed bottles from the recipes aren't as good as the kits.
Of my first 4 batches 2 of them don't have much carbonation.
Here are my observations:
The kits (brewer's best) are fine
The 2 I did from recipes have little carbonation and no head retention.
The recipes I made all used DME - The kits used liquid extract.

I was just looking at the bottles I bought from my local brew supply store. Some of them have the same N 35 OI on them. So, I suppose these are defective as well.
I just opened bottle of my second batch. A cherry wheat. The flavor is fine but has NO carbonation. It's only been in the bottle for a week. It was in secondary for about 3 weeks before that. I guess it will just take more time for the bottling sugar to ferment??
I cleaned and sanitized my bottles a few days ago in preparation for bottling. The beer wasn't ready to be bottled. They are all still on the drying rack. How long will they be OK until I need to re-sanitize them again?

Just getting into the HB world and will never go back...I am finishing my first batch of Irish Stout (Brewer's Best kit). And I am in the process of a cherry wheat. I hope all goes well. If it doesn't, I'll have to drink store bought beer until another batch is ready.
