    First Brew

You sound just like me a few months ago. I started on Mr. Beer. Brewed a couple of batches and moved onto 5 gallon batches. I think I had 15 gallons of beer brewed before they were even ready to drink. Happy Brewing.

    Conditioning is everything.

I am still pretty new to home brewing and I haven't brewed a beer in 5 months or so. Back when I was brewing heavily, I brewed a cream ale, an autumn ale and a Fat Tire clone. I conditioned them for three weeks or so before trying each one, and they were not too bad. I really haven't drank...

Beer in fermenter since June 7... Too long?

I brewed a batch of beer on June 7. Gravity was still too high after 2 weeks, so I let it ride. Here it is now August 9, and I haven't checked it since. Has it been on the yeast cake too long, or will it probably be ok to bottle?

    Newbie questions about home brewing

Once you figure in your time, you're not saving any money. However, it's an awesome feeling knowing you can make drinkable, even great beer. Really, it turns into a passion, and that's pretty much it. The quest to make the perfect batch of beer. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I can make...

    Drinking too much homebrew

Until last night I had never had more than 3 homebrews in one sitting. Last night I probably had a dozen or so cream ales. Right before I went to bed, I had the raging Sh*ts. Horrible lol, I was sweating and everything. Same thing when I woke up this morning. I poured the beer out of the...

    Homebrew kit reviews: My experiences.

My first two brews were both kits from Midwest Supplies. My first was Liberty Cream Ale, and my 2nd was Midwest's Autumn Amber ale. The Cream Ale has been in bottles for 6 weeks and the Autumn ale as been in bottles for 4 weeks. These were both extract kits. The cream ale really hasn't...

Noob needs help with calculating efficiency

Thank you! If I used the calculator correctly, I got around 80% efficiency. I'm not exactly sure how much rice I used. I bought a 1lb 12oz box, and tried to judge, but it was close to a pound erring on the side of caution. BIAB was really easy. Would have been a lot easier if I had a big...

Noob needs help with calculating efficiency

Brewed my first AG BIAB batch tonight. Biermuncher's cream of 3 crops final volume: 5.5 gallons 6 lbs 2 row 2 lbs flaked corn approx. 1 lb minute rice. My kettle wasn't large enough to do no sparge so I dunk sparged in 2.5 gallons of water after mash. Original volume was 5.5...

anyone that uses austin homebrew see this?

I love AHS. I was using Midwest (which were great) but AHS's shipping is ridiculously cheap compared to Midwest. It costs $16 to get one recipe kit shipped to MO from Midwest.

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I'm making this recipe this weekend (5.5 gallon batch). My ingredients were shipped today, and realized I didn't order any crystal hops, only 1 oz. of Willamette. Should I boil 1/2 oz. for 60 minutes and the other 1/2 for 15? Or should I boil them all for 60 minutes?

BIAB dunk sparging in fermenting bucket

I'm going to be doing my 1st all grain/BIAB brew this weekend. It will be a 5 gallon batch and my pot is not large enough to do a full boil with no sparge. I was planning on using one of my fermenting buckets to dunk sparge in. My question is: Will pouring 170 degree water in my bucket...

    brewing in the summer

I bought one of those round tubs with the rope handles at walmart for eight bucks. I fill it about 10 inches deep with cold water, put my fermenter in it and every night put a pitcher full of ice cubes in; sometimes twice a day. works great

Is this Equipment Kit a good deal for $90?

That's how I got started doing 5 gallon batches. The Midwest groupon is a great deal. I got the Autumn amber ale with the kit and got Liberty cream ale with the $25 certificate. Good luck!
