i'm going to wash yeast tomorrow according to the wiki on this site. The yeast im washing is from an ipa. The trub holds all of my hops from the boil/dry hopping. How should I go about washing these out of the yeast?
Great! Looks like I'll be drinking some blonde ale in a few weeks. That'll make my last three batches a blonde a pale and a blonde. I think I'll be using the slurry of this Cali V for something BIG.
good to hear I'll probably brew it up this weekend. It'll be nice to do a quick low gravity with this yeast so I can see what It's really about. What temperature did you ferment at ?
My LHBS just got in some liquid yeast and I picked up white labs WLP051 Cali V Ale yeast not really knowing much about it. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on the yeast. Just wondering who has had good experiences with this yeast and has an awesome AG recipe for me to brew up this weekend!

Before I transfer from my primary to keg I cold crash my carboy in the fridge for a week. Would I be able to just wait for my slurry to reach fermentation temp and re-pitch on top? or does the cold crash alter the viability of my yeast for re-pitching?
In P-J's diagrams he always uses a contactor along with an SSR to switch the heaters. Can someone give me a detailed explanation of why you need the contactor? Just a little confused is all,
Thanks guys,
Russ
no refractometer just a thief with your standard floating hydrometer. 1.032 seems weird because when i drank the sample it did not taste overly sweet. Had a definitive alcohol taste.
i used safale lager yeast. I started it in a cup of warm water as per the instructions and once it reached pitching temps (i think i pitched with the wort and yeast around 65F) i dumped it in the wort and sealed it with an airlock. Festa brew is a pre-made all grain wort that goes straight to...
I've got a festa brew continental pilsner fermenting and will be 3 weeks tomorow. OG was 1.0046 i checked yesterday and im at 1.0032. Whats going on here? the batch is still active because the airlock is bubbling every 20 seconds or so. Do I leave the brew in the primary until i get closer to...
I will be shaking my carboy to aerate the wort... should i do this before or after i pitch the yeast. And if its before how do i stir in the yeast if its a glass carboy? It will be a dry yeast rehydrated so now a liquid
