    Plinian Progeny fermentation

Yes it's a clone of The Yonger, the triple IPA. I was kind of thinking that too, just bottle it and it is what it is.

    Plinian Progeny fermentation

It's been a couple weeks and it's not moving. I think I need to transfer it off the hops and stuff or it's going to start to turn on me. Should I add yeast to the 2ndary to try to finish it up? I can try Lutra like suggested, maybe champagne yeast, or more us05? Something else? How many...

    Plinian Progeny fermentation

I was using the refractometer correction calculator when I came up with the 10%. I get it now, and I wasn't using that calculator correctly. Yeah I'm going to need a better yeast I think, this also has to bottle condition eventually... I typically stay away from the bigger beers but this one...

    Plinian Progeny fermentation

Hello all, I've got an Plinian Progeny extract (northern brewer) in progress. Brewed on 9/25. Today is 10/15. Measured SG with Brix refractometer at 20, which calculated to 1.083. Instructions say it should be 1.090 so it's close. It is in the basement around 65 degrees, and I used two...

    Yeast Starter for big beer

I am planning for doing an extract version of The Plinian Progeny Triple IPA. it's a fairly big beer with OG 1.090 and an unbelievable amount of hops. I use dry yeast, US-05, and got two packs with this kit. I'm wondering best way to do the starter, should I dump both pack into it, or just use...

When to add fruit to Lager

When should fruit puree get added to a lager? I am thinking that it should be after primary is finished, add fruit while it's in the fridge, allow secondary to occur.. then d-rest?

    Oregon blackberry added... waiting...

I have a batch which finished primary, and then I poured a big can of Oregon Blackberry Puree into the primary. I have been expecting to see some (vigorous?) secondary fermentation, but so far nothing has happened and it's been 3 days. It has all settled into layers on the bottom, yeast on the...

    Suggestions for raspberry red ale

I was more looking for what other types of fruit would be good in a beer, other than raspberry? maybe another kind of berry, or cherry, or mango, watermellon, i dont know - something like that?

    Suggestions for raspberry red ale

I thought it would be nice to try a fruity beer for fall (instead of the standard pumpkin ale), and I picked up a raspberry red ale extract kit. I then read some reviews of it and found complaints about the raspberry extract being overpowering, and giving it an unnatural or fake flavor. So I'm...

    steep to boil time

I built an insulation wrap for my pot as shown in that other thread, and it works very well! I used some very inexpensive foil-wrapped fiberglass 1/4" insulation that is normally attached to rafters in an attic. 25' roll was $8, and I only used about 5' of it to create the wrap and also a...

    steep to boil time

My first batch, using our electric stove largest burner on max. I have a 20qt pot and I started with about 2.5 gallons of water. It took over an hour to go from 155 degrees to boiling! I had the lid on, only slightly to the side so I could have the thermometer in there. I'm wondering if that...
