    Bitter Sorghum taste

Just brewed a high ABV attempt at an IPA with dark Sorghum/maltodextrim/table sugar/5 oz's of various Hops. Also dry hopped. Two 11g packages of Verdant IPA yeast. Everything went well, good fermentation - OG 1.090 - FG 1.017. Smells good, looks good but still has that twangy/bitter taste from...

    Bitter Sorghum taste

Hello, Brew with white and dark Sorghum and some Rice syrup. Any good ingredients to offset the bitter "twangy" taste of Sorghum ? Also realized that some of my brews made with above ingredients are at app. 300 calories per 12 oz.'s, any way to lower the calories ? Thanks

    Length of Fermentation

Hello, Thanks for all the advice ! The fermentation did not take off for app. 24 hours ... at that point it was bubbling vigorously. Have not taken another SG reading, may do one when I remove the airlock to introduce dry hops. May have to look into getting a tilt hydrometer. I do have...

    Length of Fermentation

Hello, Am brewing a 5 gal. batch with an OG of 1.090, pitched two 11g packages of Verdant IPA Yeast 14 days ago tomorrow and still have Krausen on top and a bubble every 7-8 seconds. Was planning on leaving in glass carboy for 21 days before bottling. Dry hop 3- days before bottling. Is...

    Dry Hopping question

Hello, I brew Gluten free but didn't think that made a big difference for this question. When is the best time to dry hop the beer and how long do you leave the Hops in place ? Have heard just at the end of active fermentation or roughly four days. Also the Hops should be removed after...

    Dry Rice Sugar use

FYI, I checked the calibration on the hydrometer and it is right on. Also checked the temp of the water I used to make sure that was not a factor. Thanks

    Dry Rice Sugar use

Hello, Is an OG of 1.090 even possible or would you say it was an inaccurate reading ? Wedging something under the carboy means you would put the autosiphon pick up tub on the high side of the carboy so you don't suck up trubb ? What does "rack it off the trubb" mean ? Dry...

    Dry Rice Sugar use

Hello, I did take the measurement from the full 5 gal.s in the carboy, (7 gal. size Carboy). Checked the Sorghum, 3 lb. containers x 3 = 9 lbs. As far as mixing goes. I started out with app. 1 gal. of water in the carboy. I gave the Wort in kettle,(app. 2.5-3 gal.'s) vigorous mixing with...

    Dry Rice Sugar use

Hello, Made a batch today following most of your recommendations… different recipe but similar. Hops in bag and instead of pouring from kettle thru funnel strainer into Carboy … I stirred very rapidly and got a good Vortex going then let sit for 10 minutes before siphoning from side of kettle...

    Dry Rice Sugar use

Hello, Again thanks for your time. I am new to this and have only done app. 7 five gallon gluten free batches. All have turned out pretty well ... all drinkable. A typical batch for me is start out with a 3 gal boil adding adding all fermentables at beginning and Hops at pre-determinded...
