3-Gallon BIAB Questions on Grain Bill & Water

Each of us does this a bit different and most all get to a good end. This is how I do three gallon batches in a 5 gal pot. I love the 3 gal bit, enough but not too much beer, can make a bunch of smaller batches. Measure out 3 gal, then mark or scibe your pot to this, also 3.5,4,4.5. I start...

    Negatives of BIAB?

My experience is that multiple bags in no way harms the process as I usually get in the 80% range, just my way of many to do this whole thing, its the ultimate, relax have a homebrew experience in general..grin..

    Negatives of BIAB?

So what is it that folks have against using 2 or 3 bags and dividing the load? I do that even with 3 gal batchs and works like a charm. Only thing I can figure is that folks get one big bag and put it over the edge of the pot, not every body needs to do it this way, you can use two or three bags...

    Color Development Help

2 thoughts, first is the use of some kind of heat difuser for the bottom of the vessel as hot spots are part of your problem. second is that as I have been looking at molecular cooking, the advise is to make the surface more basic to speed the mallard reaction. You might check the Ph of the...

Anova Sous Vide BIAB 3 gallon

I don't have the unit in front of me but if you go to the web site you can see how this might be a problem, they may show the stats as to how close to the top of the pot the water has to be.

impeller runs all the time, if you don't want to use the heater, you just set it for 5-10 degrees less then current temp and it won't come on, you dial in what temp you want it to stay, once there or if wort over that temp, it won't come on.

Anova Sous Vide BIAB 3 gallon

I do not believe this machine will work well if at all inside a bag of mash. I do 3 gallons in a 5 gallon pot, use a couple of smaller bags, let the water circulate out side them, lift them up and down a bit to get some agitation but don't really drain them, a few times during the hour and get...

Anova Sous Vide BIAB 3 gallon

the link for specs is here http://anovaculinary.com/pages/specs as well as pictures, they say it is 2.75 inches wide, total height 15.5 inches, max width of the pot to hang is 1.25 inches again, I am not in any way related to the company, just wanted to bring to the group attention a...

    Experiment with low volume BIAB

Usually I bottle but often use the 2.5 gal kegs. They can be charged using corn sugar just like bottles if you don't have or don't want to buy a C02 set up and they can use a small cartridge CO2 party dispenser to push out the brew. They fit in a 6 gal brew bucket, easy to carry and with plenty...

    Experiment with low volume BIAB

All my 5 gal extract brewing was done in a 5 gal, net 3 plus 2 cold. Even better consider going to 3 gal batches, there is nothing carved in stone that all beer batches must be 5 gal. The 3 gallon batch ferments fine in the 5 gal bucket and then I rack over to to a 3 gal carboy. 3 Gal carboys...

    Venturing into small batch BIAB

I saw someplace that you can sometimes get a "canning" burner for the stove, also consider starting with hot water from the water heater, I can find no difference when I do that or use my cold water, good luck

Anova Sous Vide BIAB 3 gallon

Well , that is what it is made for and as far as I can tell, it is awesome. As in many things in life the machine works far above the capability of the human operator, just getting the hang of the food thing.

Anova Sous Vide BIAB 3 gallon

No I do not believe it would be a good idea to have it in the bag, the microfines that leak out of the bag are no problem but regular mash would not work. You may want to reconsider the idea of a single bag. Even with small batch I use a couple of bags, lift them up and down a couple of times...

Anova Sous Vide BIAB 3 gallon

The heater goes on the side of the pot and the grains stay in the bag. By keeping the grain in the bag there is no clogging of the flow the unit creates. There was a small amount of buildup on the element the first time which scrubbed off easily. The unit comes apart to clean. Subsequently I...

Anova Sous Vide BIAB 3 gallon

The new Anova immersion circulating heater is an awesome tool for a BIAG homebrewer. I have no relationship with the company and admittedly am a newbie to its use, although I have been homebrewing for more then 10 years. I have been able to do a 3 gallon all grain batch in 3 hours from the time...
