Looking for a travelling beer cup/mug...any suggestions??

Hi all! I am heading to Jamaica with my wife this spring and I hear that it is a good thing to bring your own traveling mug for drinks. I enjoy my beer very much and am looking for a traveling mug that will suit beer...I really don't want to use a coffee traveling mug if I don't have to, but I...

    My next step in brewing?

Wow, thanks for your input everyone! I have all necessary equipment (i.e. stock pot, thermometer, etc) so I think I will make the jump to extract brewing. I am an ale fan, but I would love to just brew the basic styles and build from there. Maybe a straight up lager and ale kit to begin? Thanks...

    My next step in brewing?

Hi all, I have been brewing for a year now and all I have been using are the pre made wort kits. It's fairly simple as all you do is add water and yeast and you are good to go. I would like to start experimenting with recipes, ingredients, etc. Can you suggest some easy recipes I can follow...

2 bottle bombs in 1/2 hour...no one hurt! What to do??

I've begun to dump them out...they are still pretty chilled from being outside all day, so opening them up hasn't been too bad. I am going to save a few bottles as an experiment and let them explode...I want to put some random items (i.e. ziplock bag full of water, plastic cup, styrofoam, etc)...

2 bottle bombs in 1/2 hour...no one hurt! What to do??

Thanks guys. It's funny cause I have been reading Palmer's book quite regularly and I figured I was going to try to ferment in cool lager-type temperatures...it's pretty warm in my house and I don't have a cool cellar to put the brew in. So I tried...and failed! We all learn differently I...

2 bottle bombs in 1/2 hour...no one hurt! What to do??

Hello everyone! So this is my 5th batch ever...doing a Mexican Cerveza Brewhouse Kit. My last 4 batches went well, but this one...is scaring me like a little schoolboy! I'll admit, I didn't take a gravity reading before I bottled. I cleaned and sanitized my bottles well and I am not too worried...

    Frozen Pre-made wort?

P.S. My LHBS is 200 miles south...I had no choice but to use the yeast :(

    Frozen Pre-made wort?

Thanks guys! So I ended up using the Coopers yeast and re-hydrating it as per Palmer's book. No activity in the air lock yet, (12 hours later) but I don't expect any movement for another day or so... BUT I have another worry. The wort was VERY cloudy when I siphoned it from the kit to my primary...

    Frozen Pre-made wort?

Yah, I was thinking about the yeast as well. It's packaged Cooper's dry yeast, and it was frozen along with the kit. I was going to rehydrate it...I hope it's ok!

    Frozen Pre-made wort?

Hello all! Today is my brew day and I have a questions before I begin. I recently bought a Brew House IPA kit that contains 15 liters of pre-made wort. Due to circumstances beyond my control, my kit was left outside to freeze for about 5 days (I am located in northern Canada) My kit is back to...

Does anyone have any experience with Brew House kits?

I've brewed 3 kits from the Brew House and all 3 of them called for a 6.5 gallon pail. I don't own a 6.5, but a 5 gallon. I followed the instructions to the 'T' and my first kit (Red Ale) went over well, my second kit (Munich Dark Lager) well, let's say things got a little messy! My third kit...

Do these instructions sound odd?...Primary fermentation

Thanks everyone!! I appreciate all your input! I will definitely stay away from this kit and hopefully start doing my own thing very soon!!

Do these instructions sound odd?...Primary fermentation

great stuff guys! im glad my stupidity can open up so many doors for good discussions! keep 'er coming! as for temperature, i know that lagers generally need a cooler tepmerature, and we keep our house around 20C (68C), but I've read that they should be kept cooler than that...I'm hoping it'll...
