Heh, so turns out I'm good to go. This was my first ferment using a Tilt Hydrometer. I was reading a few forum posts about it and apparently it's not uncommon for the hydrometer to get "stuck" either by some bubbles or something floating. It was suggested to give the fermenter a slight...
OK. Thanks. I was just concerned that the ABV might end up being too low for what the beer is. According to the style guidelines Strong Bitters should be between 4.6-6.2% ABV. I wanted to make sure I didn't do something wrong if mine ultimately comes in at the extreme low end of that range...
Howdy all,
Made a 5g batch of a ESB 7-days ago.
SG was 1.056
One week in it's sitting at 1.021. So rougly 4.6% ABV
I'm expecting that 1.021 to be lower for a final ABV of 5.25-5.3%ABV
Using dry yeast London ESB
Fermenter has been around 65-67% for the 7 days.
Should I expect any further...
I'm on cloud nine and had to share my excitement!
Started brewing about 6-months ago and on a whim decided to enter the Bluebonnet Brew Off here in north Texas. I was just hoping to get some constructive criticism.
Well, found out last night that I placed 3rd in my category! What...
pitched some London ESB dry yeast that I had bloomed in some water beforehand.
I've moved my fermenter indoors where it'll hopefull warm up. Go yeast go!
Hey all,
Did a batch of beer this past weekend. I've got a chest freezer in a storage shed outside with a temp controller and a heating pad. I put the fermenter in Saturday night.
Never even dawned on me that the heating pad wouldn't be able to keep the inside of the freezer warm. In...
Hooked indeed! I'm three days removed from my last brew day and I'm already planning the next one. Beyond that I'm actively trying to convince my friends to buy kegerators so I have more excuses to brew. :D
OK, technically my second attempt, since my first attempt was a complete failure that I wouldn't classify as beer. :-)
So I've always wanted to brew beer and recently decided to give it a shot. Like most things in my life, I jumped in with both feet and decided to go with all grain to start...
I got nothing to contribute to this conversation other than my great ginger beer story!
A couple years ago I decided I wanted to make some ginger beer. Not alcoholic, but with a real ginger starter/bug. everything went well. Made my bug, made my ginger beer. Added the bug to the beer. Bottled...
man, i didn't realize the whole measuring FG using a refractometer was such a pain in the A$$. Best get me a hydrometer stat. Hey, I learned something today. Yay!
My recipe had a target OG of 1.054. My measurement was 1.056.
The target final gravity was supposed to be 1.016. After three weeks in the fermenter, I've bottomed out at 1.024. Seems like I'm a full percentage point off my target ABV.
What could have been the cause of this? Is there...
