Expected Specific Gravity After One Week in Fermenter?

Heh, so turns out I'm good to go. This was my first ferment using a Tilt Hydrometer. I was reading a few forum posts about it and apparently it's not uncommon for the hydrometer to get "stuck" either by some bubbles or something floating. It was suggested to give the fermenter a slight...

Expected Specific Gravity After One Week in Fermenter?

OK. Thanks. I was just concerned that the ABV might end up being too low for what the beer is. According to the style guidelines Strong Bitters should be between 4.6-6.2% ABV. I wanted to make sure I didn't do something wrong if mine ultimately comes in at the extreme low end of that range...

Expected Specific Gravity After One Week in Fermenter?

According to Beersmith, my OG should have been 1.057 so I was looking pretty good there. FG is supposed to be 1.017 for a final ABV of 5.25%.

Expected Specific Gravity After One Week in Fermenter?

Howdy all, Made a 5g batch of a ESB 7-days ago. SG was 1.056 One week in it's sitting at 1.021. So rougly 4.6% ABV I'm expecting that 1.021 to be lower for a final ABV of 5.25-5.3%ABV Using dry yeast London ESB Fermenter has been around 65-67% for the 7 days. Should I expect any further...

Got a 3rd Place in the Bluebonnet Brew Off!?!

I'm on cloud nine and had to share my excitement! Started brewing about 6-months ago and on a whim decided to enter the Bluebonnet Brew Off here in north Texas. I was just hoping to get some constructive criticism. Well, found out last night that I placed 3rd in my category! What...

Fermenting chamber got too cold. Can I save my beer?

pitched some London ESB dry yeast that I had bloomed in some water beforehand. I've moved my fermenter indoors where it'll hopefull warm up. Go yeast go!

Fermenting chamber got too cold. Can I save my beer?

Hey all, Did a batch of beer this past weekend. I've got a chest freezer in a storage shed outside with a temp controller and a heating pad. I put the fermenter in Saturday night. Never even dawned on me that the heating pad wouldn't be able to keep the inside of the freezer warm. In...

My first beer = great success!

Hooked indeed! I'm three days removed from my last brew day and I'm already planning the next one. Beyond that I'm actively trying to convince my friends to buy kegerators so I have more excuses to brew. :D

My first beer = great success!

OK, technically my second attempt, since my first attempt was a complete failure that I wouldn't classify as beer. :-) So I've always wanted to brew beer and recently decided to give it a shot. Like most things in my life, I jumped in with both feet and decided to go with all grain to start...

    alcoholic ginger beer

I got nothing to contribute to this conversation other than my great ginger beer story! A couple years ago I decided I wanted to make some ginger beer. Not alcoholic, but with a real ginger starter/bug. everything went well. Made my bug, made my ginger beer. Added the bug to the beer. Bottled...

Didn't hit my final gravity target. Thoughts?

My recipe had a target OG of 1.054. My measurement was 1.056. The target final gravity was supposed to be 1.016. After three weeks in the fermenter, I've bottomed out at 1.024. Seems like I'm a full percentage point off my target ABV. What could have been the cause of this? Is there...

    This looking correct?

Heh, yah, I kinda screwed that part up. Put the dry hope in when I pitched the yeast on day one. Figured I should go ahead and pull it now and see what happens. I was debating if I should put another ounce or so in there now. Thoughts?

    This looking correct?

7-days in to my fermentation (first brew ever) and just pulled out my dry hop bag. snapped the below picture. I wasn't expecting to see the green foam. Is it safe to assume that this is from the hops or is something wrong with it?

How bad did I screw up? Fermenter not air tight

Thanks for calming my nerves everyone! As a complete and total noob, I've been second guessing myself every step of the process. Thank God for this website so I can verify what I'm doing is correct. I can't wait for my first beer to be done!
