I have a question about the Vittles Vault containers. I recently purchased one to start making larger batches and it has a very strong plasticy off gassing smell that I can not get rid of. The manufacturers website says that it is harmless and that it will dissipate but im concerned about the...

Strong diacetyl in finished Oktoberfest . . . any fixes?

I think you are right, There probably was some diacetyl that I didnt detect at kegging but its really apparent now. I guess Ill try repitching some yeast and see if it helps!

Strong diacetyl in finished Oktoberfest . . . any fixes?

Im having a similar problem with my Oktoberfest lager this year. It tasted good when kegging, no diacetyl present at all. Now three weeks later I pulled a sample and its all buttery and blah. Im really bummed as this was my first lager brew and it seemed everything was going great. I hope its...

Lager in primary, seconday or keg?

So when the beer is (mostly) done, and if you do a D-rest at 65-70 for a couple days (and assuming at that point that the FG has been reached) would you then cool it back down slowly before racking to a keg for lagering, or just rack it warm and stick it in the cold box? Any advantage or...

Planning a lager fermentation schedule with a new temp controller

So I have a question along these lines... I just brewed my first lager yesterday (Okterbfest, 1.055, WLP838, fermenting @ 52) I pitched about 1000ml of fresh slurry pulled from the cone of a local microbrewery. The fermentation started within a few hours and is going crazy! The question I have...

Do Lagers blow out like Ales do?

I just brewed our first lager yesterday (An oktoberfest, 1.055) and used WLP838 that I got from a local microbrewery. They pulled it off the cone of one of their fermenters for me the day before, and Ill tell you what, the fermentation is every bit as vigorous and violent as my ale ferments. I...

    toasted coconut

Coconut extract tastes like coppertown suntan oil. The toasted coconut actually tastes like coconut. It took several additions of it added in the secondary for my porter to taste coconuty. Mine was not oily at all. How much did you toast the coconut before you added it?

    London ESB 1968

I just used 1968 for the first time in an ESB. I pitched at 63 and fermented at 64 and slowly raised the temp to 68 over 7 days. Just took a sample and it tastes great, no diacetyl that I can detect. I have used WLP002 on several batches before and was never happy with the results, im liking...
