Save a hefe that was abandoned

I brewed a hefeweizen beer back in May and out in the fermenter. Soon after my life went CrAZy for several months. I haven't bottled it and it's still in the primary fermenter. I find it hard to get motivated to try to bottle it now because I'm afraid it'll be stale tasting. Is there anything I...

    Brewer's Best Kits - Opinions

Looks like their recipe for a Scottish Ale is: FERMENTABLES 3.3 lb. Amber LME 1 lb. Amber DME SPECIALTY GRAINS 4 oz. Caramel 60L 4 oz. Smoked 4 oz. Chocolate 1 oz. Roasted Barley HOPS .5 oz. El Dorado 1 oz. GR Tettnang YEAST 1 Sachet Which looks pretty good. I'm assuming the...

    Brewer's Best Kits - Opinions

Lol I don't drink that much beer actually. I always liked the brewing process more than the drinking process. I don't think I have enough bottles to do three batches. Though, I might once I start drinking them. I think I might do one more before holding off. I'd love to have a good Scottish ale...

    Brewer's Best Kits - Opinions

Awesome! I wasn't planning to brew again until I had gone through some of these last two batches. But now I'm wanting to so I can try this. I'd heard of adding the extract late in the boil, but not this much of it nor this late.

I thought you needed more malt to fully utilize your hops? Is 10% enough? So there is NO need to add more than that earlier in the boil?

Wow, nice. Thanks for the info. Do you think Irish Moss/Whirlfloc is needed with extract kits? I thought that did something to all of the grain particles when doing all grain? The kit I did last night I got from my LHBS and the yeast expired sometime the first half of 2019 so I think it was...

    Brewer's Best Kits - Opinions

Controlling fermentation temps I something I know I need to figure out. I don't have the space that I used to have when I brewed previously. Right now I'm putting it in a carboy, wrapping it with a shirt or towel and setting it on the floor of my basement. It stays pretty cool, about 60F with...

    Brewer's Best Kits - Opinions

The Cream Ale that I did last night said for me to add the DME at the last 15 minutes. However, it told me to add the LME at the beginning of the boil. That seemed backwards. I would think the LME would darken more than the DME.

    Brewer's Best Kits - Opinions

I'm starting back in homebrewing after a 9 year break. Right now kits are super simple for me. My LHBS carries BB kits and can order any they make for me. What is everyone's opinion on these kits? Are the instructions that come with these OK to follow, or would you change anything? Like late...

    <5gal BIAB using ProMash

I'm considering giving BIAB a go. I just got back into homebrewing after a 9 year break and I'm really wanting to avoid the 8+ hour brew days that I used to do. I'm considering doing a 3 to 3.5 gal batch on my kitchen stove using the BIAB method. I used ProMash years ago and would like to stay...

    Back in the saddle again!

I may try to get them involved at some point. We homeschool so I can see me doing a microbiology demonstration one day :)

    Back in the saddle again!

Thank you! I'm hoping to perfect the brewing process using extracts w/ specialty grains. I remember there were a few tricks you could use to lessen the chances of getting that "Extract Kit" flavor but I'm not sure I remember them all. On this one I added my LME in the last 15 mins of my boil...

    Back in the saddle again!

Hello, I'm actually new to HBT but I was once a very avid brewer. I started brewing in the early 2000s and brewed until my first child was born in 2009. I have been wanting to get back into the hobby for a while now and decided to give it a shot this past weekend. There is a small wine making...
