    Strike water scaling

Yes that's correct. My boil kettle sight glass only starts at 2 gallons so I like to increase the volume so I can more precisely pump the right amount. But that requires me to scale my water additions. I've been having problems estimating pH in the mash so I wondered if my scaling might be an...

    Strike water scaling

Say I want to make a recipe that has 5 gallons of mash water and 2mL of 88% lactic acid in my boil kettle before mashing in. If I have 1 gallon of dead space in my boil kettle I would have to make 6 gallons of adjusted water. Would lactic acid addition scale linearly to 2.4mL?

    Center Inlet Pump Draining

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll have to use an air compressor to knock that water out. Probably need to use one on the herms coil too.

    Center Inlet Pump Draining

For those of you with a center inlet pump, do you worry about water collecting in the bottom half of the pump head below the inlet? Do you have to tip it and drain it out every brew session? I have my system hard piped and my concern is not being able to remove it to drain it out.

    Extreme over oxygenation

Yeah I figured this would be uncharted more or less as I couldn't find any reference to anyone else doing this. I did a taste test today and it tastes good. The yeast must have been happy with it because my gravity dropped 7 points over the first 15 hours of yeast contact (if my tilt it to be...

    Bump. Anyone?

    Extreme over oxygenation

So I had a great helles brewday and finished it off by pitching some Bavarian lager yeast. I started my oxygenation setup at 1 lpm, walked away and forgot about it until I walked back into the garage 2 hours later. Half of my welding tank was gone and a mess of foam all over the floor. How...

    Mash caps source

Not domed, but water tested it and it sank. Unfortunately it's too heavy and not tall enough. Any idea how I could make this float?

    Mash caps source

Tried your suggestion, it worked, but the cap as a whole was just too difficult to work with. While messing with it and trying to get it in place, I lost half my sulfites at the beginning of the mash. The volume was too high to properly fit it through the opening without dipping it into the...

    Mash caps source

So I got some time this weekend to implement my plan of using FDA silicone caulk to glue stainless foil to the bottom of FDA silicone sheet. It flexes well enough to fit inside my keggle. I used an SS Brewtech recirc manifold to get wort return through the middle and provide some stability for...

    Mash caps source

Nothing at all? Stupid sexy Flanders... I have some stainless foil I could line the bottom with. I may have to buy some FDA silicone caulk to "glue" them together because the roll is only 10" wide, while the keg walls are almost 16". I really have no better choice as I'm using a keggle with a...

    Mash caps source

Not sure, I decided to go a different route with a silicone floating mash cap. You can buy 19mm ones on Amazon, but they're $3/piece: https://www.amazon.com/PROKTH-Stainless-Exercise-Floating-Seamless/dp/B07BRWXK3Q/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=304+stainless+steel+floating+ball&qid=1579750026&sr=8-8&th=1

I was looking into those, you can get them as small as 5mm. But they were expensive. Was quoted $1,600 for 1000 10mm stainless floating balls on alibaba. Although, I only needed 300 to to cover my mash.

Where did you get those stainless steel supports for your mash cap? Did you machine them yourself? Also wondering how this has worked out for you, if you've come up with a different solution since last year.

    Low Oxygen Brewing Podcast

I started listening and tuned into the podcast yesterday. Really appreciate your knowledge. You've boosted my brewing over the last year with your website. All I brew are German beers so this is the best resource at my disposal. Interested to see where this podcast goes.
