    Reusing K. Bottles for Beer

Ok great. I know when making a lambic, they say the yeast is so invasive that you are better off having separate brewing equipment, etc. I didn't know if the kombucha culture was like that. Thanks.

    Reusing K. Bottles for Beer

My wife has started drinking kombucha and the guy she gets them from bottles in reg. beer bottles that I would use for my homebrewing/beer. Are the bottles safe to reuse for beer? Is there a chance for cross contamination assuming that I sterilize and sanitize my bottles correctly?

    Sam Calagione-Extreme Brewing

I am wondering if anyone else has plugged Calagione's recipes into BrewersFriend or BeerSmith and got really different numbers than the author is putting out there? Lou

    BeerSmith or Brewer's Friend

So which is more accurate? -- there is a difference of 1.5% ABV. That seems significant.

    BeerSmith or Brewer's Friend

I have a recipe that I inputted into BS and also into BF. Keeping all of the data the same, the OG, IBUs, ABV all come out differently. Does anyone have any experience with either of these programs to know which is correct or what am I doing wrong? Thanks - Lou

    Not Reaching OG

I have never weighed the amount of extract or DME in the bag before. Does anyone think this could be the problem? I get most of our ingredients from Midwest Supplies, so I have always figured they are doing their job, and I have never weighed the sugars. to answer a previous question -- I...

    Not Reaching OG

Here is the recipe. Also, I used a stirring attachment with a drill and stirred for 1 min. to aerate. Also, the hydrometer would have been about 70F (room temp) and the wort would have been about about the 80F-but we didn't actually measure, so I am just guessing. Would that account for such...

    Not Reaching OG

I have a question about OG. We follow a recipe exactly and many times will miss out OG by 10-30 pts. For example, I plug a recipe into Beersmith, it says OG should be around 1064. We hit 1050. (The orig. recipe said it should be around 1074-from Sam C. book Extreme Brewing, but from what I...
