I would say the only I will change when I brew it next is to add maybe a little more lactose and oats/wheat to help thicken it up a little. Oh and I will switch up the hops just because. But, that's just me being a homebrewer - always trying to tweak and improve.
Yep, I brewed an IPA last month. Can't stop drinking it...can't believe I haven't kicked the keg yet! I've had about 10 people try it (most of whom aren't craft beer lovers) and they loved it and couldn't stop asking for more.
Here's my recipe:
8lb pale
2lb pilsner
1lb flaked oats
1lb...
I think it was Shaun Hill that said Citra has been really hit or miss lately. Breweries w good contracts get to go to the hop farms and pick the crop they want and homebrewers are seemingly left with what the breweries don't want. At least that was my takeaway from his comment.
I had the...
Sorry to bump this 2 yr old thread, but I figured it's better to do that than make a new one.
I'm looking to get this peach flavor for an IPA I'm brewing soon. US-05 @ 62, right? Would bumping the temp up after the krausen drops help or hurt the peach flavor?
I'm planning on making a peach IPA w Amarillo, Citra, and Simcoe in the steep/whirlpool and then also dry hopping with those. I've never used peaches before so I'm not sure how they're going to effect my dry hopping process.
Planning on pitting the peaches and keeping the skin on and cutting...
Thanks buddy! I got advice from somebody else to drop the corn so I think I will do that and up the pilsner to make up for it. I'm not overly concerned w clear beer - I want to make it creamy smooth w the oats so I'll see how this turns out and probably kick myself for not downing them to 10%...
Looking for some advice for a hoppy blonde recipe I'm going to brew tomorrow. Looking for a very light color and huge hop aroma w a big Galaxy kick.
According to Beersmith it should end up around 5.4% abv, 2.9 SRM, and 25 IBUs although I know the steep isnt taken into consideration...
Should be great together. I would save both for a flameout/whirlpool add and steep them for a half hour or so. Don't forget to dry hop too. Should turn out great!
Brewed this bad boy tonight. What do you all think?
Started off w 8 gallons of water, treated w 7g calcium sulfate and 2tsp calcium chloride
12lb 2 row
3lb flaked oats
8oz carapils
8oz caramel 60
4oz honey malt
Steeped for:
60 mins @ 154 - recirculated final 10 mins w sparge arm...
What does it matter? Just because you're used to clear beers doesn't mean the cloudy ones aren't any good. Have you tried a New England style IPA yet? The haze from the higher than usual amt of hops, oats, and 1318/conan yeast definitely give it a unique taste unlike any other IPAs (that a...
Do you guys rack to a secondary after fermentation is done in order to get the wort off the yeast bed? Then dry hop and cold crash in that carboy?
Or just use your primary fermenter, wait till it's done fermenting and open it up and dry hop it and seal it back up for a few days then cold...
