    late extract addition

    Hello all. I'm getting ready to brew my 2nd batch pretty soon. Some of the recipes i've seen on Steinbart's say to add 30% of the malt extract at the normal time and 70% of malt extract during the last 5 minutes of boil. I guess its suppose it gives it a lighter color and improved hop...

    pulling beer for Hydrometer.

    Well i tried using the Racking cane and i made a mess. Beer leaked out onto my hand, on the lid, and back in the beer. I think all i managed to do was contaminate my beer. Darn!! Live and learn i guess. The beer did smell delicious while i had the airlock off though.

    Dry Yeast

    Thanks every one for there feed back. I ended up re-hydrating after all. However, I think I re-hydrated a little early. I did it right after boiling, so it sat while the wort was cooling. :confused:

    May have already messed up.

    Hello so brewing my first batch, and i think i already messed up. While steeping my grains. the temp climbed to 180 and stayed there for about 15 min. its at about 165ish now for the last 15 min. did i screw my batch up?

    Dry Yeast

    Hay everyone. I'm about to start my first batch. Its a DME 5 gallon portland style hef. I'm using a dry yeast, and i don't want to hydrate it (just becuse this is my first bacth and i don't want the extra hassle) the guy at my LHBS sead i can just through the yeast in there with out hydrating...
