    Holiday Ale

Kind of a newb here (brewed two successful extract + steeping grains recipes so far). A little late to the game perhaps but I was hoping to throw together a simple ale for Thanksgiving. Looking for something with a subtle spice flavor and not too elaborate to make. After doing some research...

Coors or Miller Lite Plastic Bottles in SoCal

If the Chargers win (unlikely) and the Donkos lose (more unlikely), I'll be drinking liquor and calling in sick on Monday!

    Pyramid Snow Cap Recipe Conversion

I reduced the specialty malts because the original recipe was for six gallons and I brew five. Also, did you use pellets as the type of hops in your calculator?

    Aerating the wort

I am extract brewing using partial boils (2.5 gallons). When I add it to my chilled H20 in the carboy is that sufficient to aerate it?

    Bulk DME

I just ordered a bunch of 1# bags from morebeer.com for $3.75 each with free shipping. I was paying $18 for 3# bags! That'll be convenient and bring my cost-per-batch down considerably...

    Pyramid Snow Cap Recipe Conversion

I am really enjoying this Snow Cap ale I am getting at the local 7-11. I found a "clone" 6-gallon all-grain recipe for it and tried to convert it to an extract + steeping grains. Hit most of the numbers on tastybrew.com but I am sure I didn't do it quite right? I divided the specialty...

Coors or Miller Lite Plastic Bottles in SoCal

Does anyone know if these are still being sold at all, and if so, in Southern California? We are going to have a huge tailgate for the last game of my pathetic Chargers and I was thinking I could pick some up for the boys and then re-use them for brewing. Thank you!

    Bulk DME

So, my first brew isn't carbed all the way yet but seems like it will be good judging by an early taste. Yesterday I brewed a robust porter. The brewing went quite smoothly and I am excited about it. I am going to continue on with the extract + steeping grains technique for a while. It's easy...

    My Brew Weekend

Tasted my first sample of my first batch Saturday, a California-style amber ale (extract + steeping grains). Not carbed enough yet (as expected) but great flavor and mouthfeel! Brewed a robust porter Sunday morning whilst watching football. Also drank a growler of AleSmith YuleSmith, some...

    Robust Porter Advice

Brewing up a batch of Robust Porter tomorrow. Trying to use some stuff I have on hand, which was 6 pounds amber DME and Galena, Centenniel, and Cascade hops but got a couple things to supplement the recipe (1/2 # Chocolate Malt, 1/2# Black Malt). Checked my recipe on tastybrew.com, as it...

    Red Ale Recipe Modification

Sorry for all of the questions, but I have a couple more. Also, what about any additional ingredients for body, clarity, etc? Anything to make it unique that belongs in a porter? What level of carbonation is best for this style of robust porter? Medium?

    Red Ale Recipe Modification

I'll have to look, but I think you are right--it will be too bitter. What about adding the Cascade later? Like 15 minutes left in the boil?

    Red Ale Recipe Modification

I like your idea. What about an American Porter? How does this look (recommendations appreciated): 6# Amber DME 1# Pale DME 1/2# Chocolate Malt 1/2# Black Malt 1 oz. Galena 60 min. 1/2 oz. Cascade 60 min. 1 oz. Centennial 2 min. Thank you!

    Red Ale Recipe Modification

Thanks you guys. Unfortunately I didn't read what I had on hand properly (it came with the brew kit as a gift). Thought it was Pale Malt Extract but it's Muntons Amber. I have 6# of the stuff, as well as the hops already mentioned. Any ideas? Doesn't have to be a red ale...

    Boiling Pot Question

Yeah, I was thinking stove top. What you are saying makes sense though. Which one is good? Bayou Classic with aluminum? Is 30 quarts big enough?
