Now that you've lived with it for awhile, do you reccomendation this type or something less dense? I've had other keezer lids really squish and deform the weather stripping too much, so was looking for a denser alternative.

looks awesome! just curious - what kind of weather stripping did you use between the collar and the freezer? is that a sponge neoprene? looks like it must be dense as it doesn't compress much.

Have you experimented with a finer crush? That can make a huge difference and isn't as big of a deal with the biab method like it is with traditional all grain. Also, are you stirring really well and making sure to break up any dough balls? I have a similar system and process and regularly...

Just following up on this. The beer was indeed burnt. :( Couldn't even remotely pass it off as "smoked". I have since been more careful to stir while bringing to a boil and haven't yet tried to throw hops directly in the kettle without a hop bag since then. I also haven't used that...

I actually just recently changed out my brew kettle and it made a big difference. Specifically, I switched to an 8 gal Tall Boy Kettle from Northern Brewer, which has a 12.5 inch diameter pot. That made a huge difference, because it narrowed the surface area considerably (was 14 in before)...

It is a fine crush, but practically nothing is getting through the biab bag -- it has really fine holes. Would that still affect trub? It has condensed a lot. It's at the 1/2 gal mark, of a 2.5 gal batch. Still more than I would think, but not nearly what the pic shows.

Yeah, it is a lot! Hoping it settles quite a bit. It was about 2 oz of hops for a 2.5 gal batch, so way more than I was expecting!

Brewed an IPA today with a eBIAB setup. I did 2 things different - i didnt use a hop bag and kust put them in the wort directly and I used a new mash bag that has much finer holes. My element had a lot of black on it, it looked burnt. I didn't smell anything during the boil, but as it is...

Yup, I should have just tried it out! Though I am glad I went through the troubleshooting a bit, I think I solved some other things in the process and learned a few things from the thread.

It is a 9 gallon kettle, so overkill for my 2.5 gallon batches, but I was trying to reuse what I had to minimize costs of switching to electric.
