    Hunter's Ale?

Hello, A member of another forum that I frequent asked about a Hunter's Ale that he sampled while hunting in South Africa... A google search turned up an apple cider by the same name, but not much else... Anybody ever heard of this stuff or tried it? I know it's a long shot, but a recipe...

    Bottle carb/back sweeten

I might add in a packet of yeast, just for good measure. Also, I doubt the dishwasher will be adequate. There is an excellent thread about stove top pasteurization on this site.

    properly carbonated or not?

Hmm, dunno. I made a one gallon kit and it was borderline gusher in the bottles. I do not suspect an infection. Happened with the raspberry Hefeweizen I made for my wife as well. For now, I'm considering the carbonation drops I used to be suspect. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Fantastic Hard Cider Recipe with Instructions (and fall spice / cherry variations)

I am planning on following the OP recipe this weekend with the caveat that I'm halving it. I have acquired 2 gallons of cider from a local orchard as well as a two quart jug for back sweetening and carbonation. Anyone see any problems with my adding some dextrose during the boil to raise the OG...

    Newbie

Hello from Windham... I would say go for it with the AG thing. I am doing mostly extract with steeping grains and the occasional partial mash kit these days, but if you have the ambition and equipment, I say go for it! Regarding fermentation control... The water surrounding a carboy will...

    Culturing yeast from a bottle

I actually am in the process of trying to culture yeast from Spencer Trappist. I definitely made some mistakes, but it may yet work out. I started with around 3/4 lb of DME boiled in 1 gallon. OG 1.056. (Too high, I know...) As I drank them, I added the dregs from three bottles into my gallon...

Smallest chest freezer for single 5 gallon fermentation

Yup. I just bought a 5 cu ft GE from HD to use as a fermentation and lagering chamber. Will fit one carboy. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    First Brew Questions

The only two things that would worry me are not taking an OG reading and the temperature of the fermentation. Not having an original gravity reading means that you don't really have a way to monitor fermentation progress. Probably not a big deal in this particular incidence. The temperature...

    CT Brewers Check-In

North Windham here... Still doing extract kits and mini mash kits on the stove top, but I've progressed to kegging and have a kegerator that I have been known to also use for lagering... Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

What are your Favorite German styles to brew and why?

I've successfully brewed Munich Helles, Dortmunder Export, Maibock, Kölsch, and a raspberry Hefeweizen for SWMBO. I too enjoy German beer. I have an Alt kit waiting for my next brew day with plans for a Schwarzbier and Oktoberfest in the future. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew
