Plan was to throw hops in the keg and roll with it but after seeing that I'd rather not waste the hops. Gonna have to drink a little liquid courage before I sample this witches brew
Brewed 10 gal of chinook ipa 3/24/12. Kegged 5 shortly after it finished and the other 5 has been sitting idle since today when I decided it was time to keg it. Pulled the lid off the fermenter and this is what it looked like. What would you do. Is it ok or apparently not?
Julian You only need one gfci outlet on a circuit. The other outlets wired in after the gfci are also protected. If you press the test switch on the gfci and plug something into another outlet do you still have power? This is one way to test if your garage is wired correctly.
Also would add that I did place the airlock back in and it should not have been exposed. However, should it have been exposed, would this change your mind since any wild strains could have contaminated it?
So life interrupted. Went down into the basement today to find a siphoned Carboy from march 17th that I totally forgot about. My plan was to wash the yeast (wyeast 1056) and store but I forgot. It has been sitting at 66 degrees since then after it went through a three week fermentation on a...
Went to make a starter for my first lager attempt only to find I didn't have enough DME! Ending up milling some 2 row and doing mini BIAB. Mighty proud of myself for saving tomorrows brew day.
Distractions. Yes. Football on in the garage drinking with my buddies while brewing. Then a guy showed up to buy stuff from a Craigslist ad I posted. From now on I will know my attention span.
All I had at the time. Had planned on having the wort cooled going in but my plate chiller clogged with hops or grain. I had to go straight from kettle to Carboy. All my buckets were in use. My sparge was stuck so bad I had to reach in and cut the braided hose i have as a filter in my mash tun...
I mean seriously. I'm still shaking my head today about this nightmare. Incredible bad luck for all this to happen all in one session. Unbelievable. But true. Northern brewer here I come. I figured somebody would have commented on my yeast starter on top of the rabbit cage. Lol
Lol. Forgot to mention I ran out of propane too. I shouldn't have even tried brewing. Had been drinking all day. Watching football. All my buddies were over. Way to many distractions.
The day didn't start off right to begin with but some voodoo magic cursed my brew day. It pretty much unfolded in this order Stuck sparge. Boil over. Missed hop addition. Clogged plate chiller. Burnt out march pump. Exploding carboy. Burnt my arm. Lost all my wort down the floor drain. Pictures...
So I don't normally rack to secondary but I'm gonna dry hop this IPA recipe and decided yesterday to rack and wash yeast. I'm 8 days into fermentation. Checking on the brew today i find this. White spots floating. Yesterday's gravity check showed great progress and it's doing well so I know...
