    Hello from Shelburne, Vermont

Hey, You should check out the Green Mountain Mashers homebrew club. It's mostly around Chittenden County. We hold monthly meetings which usually has either a class about something or a tour of a local brewery lead by the brewer followed by Q&A. We also bring and share homebrews and get...

    Shopping list for Vermont beers

Grateful Hands went out of business Jan 1, 2014. Which VT border? You mean near Canada, NY, Mass, or NH? There's a huge difference in what's available in different areas of Vermont. Southern Vermont has very little distribution outside of a couple breweries. If you're talking NY border, then...

    Alchemist Brewery Closed

You can also still buy Heady Topper in 2 or 3 dozen different retail outlets. All retail outlets can be found on the Alchemist's website under 'buy'.

    Alchemist Brewery Closed

New Stowe brewery is suppose to be done by Thanksgiving 2015. They are in final permitting phase now, Act 250 approved, but one guy who owns a condo on that street is continuing to protest. However, his concerns (traffic) isn't a valid reason to not approve the permits. Looks like they should be...

Cider Brewer / Brewmaster wanted in Vermont

I know quite a few who are members of the Mashers. You should type up a "job position" type post and post it to the Green Mountain Mashers Facebook page. Lots of homebrewers (beer, cider, mead) in the group. If it's a legit operation, you can also ask Jason (president) to speak at a monthly...

Tasty beer in Rutland, VT area?

Long Trail shouldn't be a mob scene. Just a few minutes north of Rutland, you have Otter Creek (who also make Shed and Wolaver's) and Drop-In Brewing in Middlebury. Also, Foley Brothers in Brandon. Rutland has a new brewpub called Hop n' Moose that just release its first few self-brewed beers a...

Headed To Vermont This Weekend - What Beers?

Interestingly enough, Northshire Brewery is located in Bennington, but Bennington is actually Southshire and Manchester is Northshire. :)

Headed To Vermont This Weekend - What Beers?

Madison Brewing Co (brewpub), Northshire Brewery, and West Mountain Breweries are in Bennington. It's not Manchester, but it's somewhat close by. You'll also probably head through Brattleboro? If so, Whetstone Station is a new brewpub there. McNeill's Brewpub has been there forever. It's a...

    Question for VTers

^Zero Gravity at American Flatbread Totally agree with Johnny. Zero Gravity and Fiddlehead are two of my local favs. If you stop by Zero Gravity, check out R-Prime. It's a collab with one of our local homebrew phenoms (the guy who won Sam Adams Longshot to have his homebrew at Pats game and...

    Question for VTers

Alchemist made deliveries to Stowe and Morrisville on Friday. If you're very lucky, you might be able to find some 4-packs there at a smaller store. Heady usually sells out quick at large stores but the smaller stores are sometimes hidden. Check retail list on their web site for which stores in...

    Question for VTers

Blackback Pub usually has a great selection of HF and Lawsons. I think the pizza place might be The Blue Stone. Blackback has some decent Mexican food :)

    Question for VTers

Does that mean you will be here for the brew fest? When in Burlington, make sure to stop at Farmhouse Tap & Grill. They usually have Hill Farmstead and Lawson's on tap and great food. Here is a guide I posted a few weeks ago to the area. There wi be lots of events next weekends for the brew...

Hopping varieties and grain roasting questions

After rereading this, I think the OP said these hops were self-grown from different vines. So you'd know at least what plants they came from to help narrow down your results and you could probably assume everything in the same bag was the same variety. Which varieties did you bag?

Hopping varieties and grain roasting questions

As far as I understand (I'm newbie too), the hop varieties are more preferences (taste, bitterness, aroma) than specifics. Although, if you're making some specific styles, then you need to use specific varieties to get the taste/aroma/bitterness to match the style requirements. But if you're...
