Stuck Fermentation: Am I about to make a terrible mistake?

Gah! Yeah, it wasn’t an ideal brew day. Even by making adjustments, I couldn’t seem to get the mash pH down to where I wanted it.

Stuck Fermentation: Am I about to make a terrible mistake?

Thanks, RM-MN. The mash temp and refractometer shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve measured the gravity in a few different ways. Although it rarely helps, couldn’t have a negative effect?

Stuck Fermentation: Am I about to make a terrible mistake?

Hey all! Last Sunday I brewed a SMaSH German pilsner (German Pils & Saaz) with two packets of Saflager 34/70. OG was 1.046 and it took off like a rocket, but now stuck for four days at 1.014 (Est. FG is 1.006). There are a couple things that may have caused this: Forgot to add yeast nutrient...

Pressure Fermentation: What's the minimum effective pressure?

Hi all, I started fermenting a German pilsner on Sunday, only to learn yesterday that something isn't sealed right and my CF10 starts to release ~8psi. I'll be able to fix it for the next round, but I'm stuck that ~8 for my ceiling, for now. Is 8/8.5psi enough pressure to take my lager, using...

Do I Need This much Yeast? (SMaSh-Pilsner Recipe included)

Hey all, Thanks for the advice! Ended up pitching 2 packets of the 34/70 at 3pm, yesterday, when I woke up today my fermenter was bubbling away like a beauty! At the 24hr mark, I'll close the spunding valve and let the pressure rise. If it doesn't get to ~12psi, I'll add some CO2, but going to...

Cool, and thanks, Knightshade. Yeah, I also pitch directly. Always worry about bugs with rehydrating.

Do I Need This much Yeast? (SMaSh-Pilsner Recipe included)

Hey, thanks, lumpher! That makes sense, but I had set my starter for pressure fermentation with the temps listed above. Do you think I should go for 2.5 packs?

Do I Need This much Yeast? (SMaSh-Pilsner Recipe included)

Hey all, This weekend I'm brewing 6gal (22.7L) of my SMaSH Czech-ish Pilsner, using Saflager 34/70. The packets I bought were created in May 2024, but BeerSmith3's Starter Calculator recommends 2.4 packs to do the job (spending 3 packs). Does this seems right? I know it's important not to under...
