    recipe critique-weizenbock

yes, i was planning on using aluminum foil for a top. i probably will decrease the hops. i tried using brewbuilder.com and it kept telling me my IBU was too low for this style. that's why i increased them. i don't know if anyone has used that site or not, but for volume for recipe...

very good, it is the janet's ale! cascade aau's are 6.4. i thought some different variety of hops might make it more complex but supplies seem limited here. probably need to start ordering some stuff.

    adding spray malt

recently brewed the brewers best kit for imperial pale ale. added 3/4 pound of light spray malt in addition to the 3 pounds that was already included. the original gravity was still the same as what it should have been. should this addition have affected the o.g.? what generally should you...

    getting started formulating recipes

I've done a few extract batches from kits and other people's recipes. I really want to come up with something on my own. There is so much info that I don't really know where to start. I want to make a coffee oatmeal stout. So how did everyone get started?

    why is my beer flat?

og was 1.07. im not sure how accurate this is since i was rather intoxicated when i took the reading which is probably also the reason i spilled my yeast. fg was 1.02 which i know is accurate

    why is my beer flat?

i dont see where the sheet gives me a final gravity but after three weeks fermenting it should be complete. the kit said it was a good beer to cold ferment and cool condition which is why i kept the temp so low. hopefully in a couple weeks it will be ok

    why is my beer flat?

i fermented around 58 or 60 degrees as i thought would be safe for this style of beer. the bottles have been around 60 also. is the colder temps just going to take a little longer to carbonate. hopefully thats all it is

well im brewing this tonight. as far as "fermenting cool" is 55 degrees too low. how low could i safely go. finally, it may pay to have a house with lots of air leaks around the windows. ive got a spare bedroom thats about 58 degrees right now but i could go lower if i closed the vent and...

    brewers best german altbier

i got this kit for xmas. may make it this weekend. it came with a nottingham dry yeast. would it be better to go with a liquid yeast? also, it says this is a "great beer to ferment cool and cold condition." this is only my fourth batch. would this be worth the extra effort you think?
