    Style you will never brew?

I can't see myself doing any kind of lambic. The idea of going for a good tasting wild strain of yeast and hoping for the best seems like too much of a chance with the dollars. The much maligned Light American Lager is actually a pretty good brew with the AHS recipe. It's basically just 5 lbs...

    First BIAB

Virtually identical to my tastebuds at this point. It's a really hoppy and bitter beer and the hops overwhelm the flavor of the malt. I'll update again once the all grain makes it to the tap. I have bottles of extract Apocalypso to compare it to from previous batches. Greg

    First BIAB

Just an update - I kegged the beer from that brewing day today -- about four weeks after brewing. There was a significant difference in the color between the extract and the all grain Apocalypso batches. The photo below is beer straight out of the hydrometer sample tube from the extract...

    Party Star...Need Help

Midwest Supplies says to use 3.0 ounces: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/party-star-deluxe-tap-system.html Don't know more than that. Normal priming sugar amount from AHS is 4.5 ounces for 5 gallons.

    CO2 Current Pricing

I swap my tanks in Coffeyville, Kansas at the Airgas shop. Last time I did so, it was $21 for a 20 lb tank and $13 for a 5 lb tank. Needless to say, I prefer to use my 20 lb tanks.

I have a pretty good pipeline going so it may be a few months before I get to either the all grain or the extract version that I brewed a few days ago, but I will try to remember to update this thread when they make it into the batting order. Probably around late December or January.

    AHS Apocalypso Opinions

I've brewed seven of these so far, six extract and an AG, all using Nottingham yeast, and they have all had massive blowoffs. I don't even use an airlock any more, just a hose stuck in the stopper running into a bottle of water.

    First BIAB

While I agree that all grain is not a magic fix, I'm going to go ahead and award myself a merit badge for doing an all grain batch despite your protest. I have also awarded myself the First Homebrew, First Can and Kilo, and first Extract with Steeping Grains (with oak leaf clusters for 10th...

    First BIAB

I is -literally- a Gott cooler that I found on the side of the road. Pulled the car over and ran down into the ditch to get it. Until my BIAB yesterday, it had only been used to brine a turkey for thanksgiving a few years ago. The rest of the time it had been in the attic.

    First BIAB

I'm sure it will be great, nearly every batch of beer I've made has been at least as good as the $8 six packs at the store. I'll definitely do more all grain batches, but I'm not going to give up extract any time soon. I brew too much beer to do it all as all grain with my equipment and the...

    First BIAB

I'm sure there have been plenty of these threads and we don't need another, but I'm going to add one anyway. I brewed my first all grain today and did it as a BIAB. I've brewed plenty of extract batches - over 50 - so I'm not a complete noob, but this was my first attempt at an all grain...

    Is Nottingham yeast this slow?

I've brewed more batches with Nottingham than any other yeast - around 20 batches with it and there has only been one time I've chosen to pitch another packet and that was at around 24 hours so I didn't really give it enough time. I usually rehydrate as recommended and have very active...

    Hefeweizen and Whirlflock?

I never use the Whirfloc on batches that use yeast that is low flocculation by design.

Love me some AHS Extract Kits

I've made around 40 or their kits and they all have been exemplary. I'm in Kansas and delivery is 2 days here. No worries about shipping time. I usually order on the weekend and they ship on Monday with Wednesday delivery. I'm a great fan of dry yeast, so the heat and shipping time usually...

    AHS Apocalypso Opinions

Apocalypso is one of my favorites. In my short brewing career (~40 batches), I've brewed more of it than any single kit. Part of the reason is the price, but the main reason is the flavor. I like APA's and this is a great example of the style. It's simple to brew since it has no steeping...
