    Voss Kveik Fermentation Profile?

So, this was my experience at the end of the day. I followed the recipe to a T and fermented at 95F for 7 days. I get strong orange peel and lots of astringency on the back end. The beer also has not cleared well at all. I'm sure a cooler temp would just be less of the same. Not a terrible...

    Voss Kveik Fermentation Profile?

It's actually a David Heath recipe I'm brewing, and he suggested Kveik at 95F for this one. Never brewed with it before so just figured I'd follow the recipe and see what happens. I plan to take notes and if it's too orange/citrusy I will likely ferment lower in the future. From what everyone is...

    Voss Kveik Fermentation Profile?

Brewed up an American Amber and used Voss Kveik for the first time. Party time after 2 hours - wild! Recipe calls for 5-7 days @ 95F. I usually use US-05 @ 67F and let it ride for 14 days before I even look at it, so this Kveik profile is new territory for me. I was just wondering what sort of...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Checking back in! Brewed a double batch of my annual rye ale yesterday using 100% maple sap as my brew water. Sap was 1.010 on it's own. Flaked & malted rye were ~21% of the grain bill. As an experiment I skipped the beta glucan rest this time and went straight to a single infusion mash. I used...

Beersmith to Brewfather - Robobrew profile issues

Fair enough. I have used the profile as a base line and customized quite a bit of my own profile in Beersmith, however I guess I was wrong in assuming the deadspace was a volume provided by the creator of the original profile, since this is how it appears in other software such as Brewfather...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Question for the thread... Beersmith and/or Brewfather, what mash tun deadspace are you using for the 35L unit? I'm making the switch to Brewfather and noticed it assumes a deadspace of 1.7gal on the Robobrew profile, which is likely correct, but I've always run 0 deadspace in Beersmith. It...

Beersmith to Brewfather - Robobrew profile issues

I'm with you - I measure my water out ahead of time, so the expansion numbers wouldn't make sense for me. The theory makes sense though. And yes, when I selected 'ignore boil expansion' my missing 0.3gal magically appeared in my volumes.

Beersmith to Brewfather - Robobrew profile issues

Ok.. so... after matching all of my numbers listed above, I was just messing around with the Brewfather profile, and under 'Mash/Sparge water Calculation Method' I selected 'Ignore Boil Expansion' and voila; numbers are the same. What does this mean? And don't say I'm ignoring the boil expansion...

Beersmith to Brewfather - Robobrew profile issues

Yep, I've made all of those numbers the same.. Batch Vol: 5.25gal Trub/Chiller Loss: 0.25gal Fermenter Loss: 0.25gal Grain absorption: 0.48qt/lb Water/Grist: 1.7qt/lb Boil-off Rate: 0.7gal/hr The pre/post boil numbers add up to 6.43/5.73gal in each program, which is fine, but why the...

Beersmith to Brewfather - Robobrew profile issues

As the title says, I'm trying to copy my equipment profile from Beersmith to Brewfather. The issue I'm having is my mash/sparge water volumes are not the same when all values in the equipment profile are identical to Beersmith. I've pretty well dialled Beersmith to the point where my mash &...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

Hey gang! I've neglected this forum and sub for a few months. Work is off the rails, wife is off maternity leave, kid is a 15 month old walking/running/suicide machine - good times! Today was my first brew day in roughly 3 months. Figured I'd keep it simple with a blonde ale I've brewed plenty...

American Amber Ale Red Rye Ale

Considering brewing this using maple sap as my brew water. It's my first time trying this, but the sap should boost the OG, dry the beer out a tad and add a bit of woodsy flavour. My only concern would be how the Columbus hops play with any woodsy notes I may get from the sap. Can anyone who's...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

As others have mentioned the temp probe on these units is on the floor of the kettle, directly above the heating elements. Seeing displayed temp a bit higher than your actual mash temp is to be expected, and I've never seen the difference to be outside of 1.5 degrees F; so pretty negligible. If...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

First off, welcome! You made a great choice in a Brewzilla, especially the 65L - you'll have lots of room for big grain bills. And from the sounds of it you are kitted out pretty well with gear! This hobby can lead you down a deep dark rabbit hole if you let it, especially when it comes to...

    Robobrew/Brewzilla Discussion

I've always found that after a long Oxi soak my glass carboys have a film that a simple starsan rinse could get rid of. Although the dwell time in the cleaner is far less here, I figured I'd apply the same step to be safe.
