    "Canning" Apfelwein Question

I'm going to go ahead and proceed with this. I'm going to my local brew store to pick up a degassing wand. How long after I degass can I can/bottle? I do not plan on carbing it. Is the degassing result in the lack of the "slight carb/sparkle" pretty much immedate? I've had these two batches (5...

    "Canning" Apfelwein Question

So, I'm getting ready to bottle/can my 10 gallons of Apfelwein in mason jars (kind of an homage to a certain TV show for me and my buddies). When doing this...should I follow typical canning procedure? or just fill it and pop the top on and screw it home? Being that it's not really a food...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I have a heating band that I use occasionally. The carboy is sitting on hardwood floors in a cool apartment (roughly 65-67 degrees or so). Should I continue to use the head band? Will there be any adverse effects if I do? Will it help? thanks!

    Apfelwein Question

Hey y'all. Been a while since I've brewed (so long that most of the gear made its way into storage!). Anyway, I made 2-5 gallon batches of Apfelwein a couple days apart, my first batch (due to lack of equipment), I shook the sugar in the Apple juice containers halfway emptied into the carboy...

    Hard Iced Tea

Back at it again. Opened a bottle of this stuff a few weeks ago. It tastes awfully sour. I don't know what I did wrong. I might try this recipe again, it seems like some had some luck with a similar recipe for hard lemonade. The tea was more work than it was worth though.

    Apfelwein Excess Sugar

So using this recipe: Hard Iced Tea Time - WinePress.US Wine Making and Grape Growing Forum I just racked mine off the primary carboy into a bucket (kind of backwards I know). It has a great tea color to it. I did one frozen lemonade concentrate before fermentation, and I will sweeten soon...

    suck Back Vs. Siphoning

So I am in day 2 of my hard ice tea project, and I had suckback yet again on my airlock. I fill mine with vodka, and today after a few errands I noticed a good foam production in the neck, and discoloration from the tea getting into the airlock. Heres my dilemma. Do I just leave it go and not...

    Too much yeast?

So I'm making my Hard Sweet Tea/Lemonade mix, and I overfilled the carboy, so I siphoned out a little bit of tea (I got suck back twice, the airlock was filled with vodka (so this baby might have a little kick)). I noticed I snagged some yeast in the siphon too. I ended up adding a little...

    Sweet Tea Wine

Question: I'm doing the Hard sweet tea, however I'm going to back sweeten with lemonade to make it like an arnold palmer. Can someone outline the steps for me a little better? Do I need a primary and a secondary, or can I do it all in a carboy in one stage? I have several yeasts: which do you...

    Sweet Tea Wine

And I assume sweeting would be with like a Splenda product in the secondary before bottling?
