    need help with large starter

Thanks for the replies. Stepping the yeast is what I thought I had to do. What are your opinions about dry yeast? I don't hear much about this type? Without experimentation, there wouldn't be great beer!

    need help with large starter

Hi fellow brewers, I will be brewing a big beer in the next few weeks. Its a Imperial IPA with an OG of 1.086. I used mrmalty to calculate the size of the starter I will need. It recommends a 2.25L starter. My problem is this: I only have a 1000ml and a 2000ml flask, and only one stir plate. I...

Recipe building software from stocked ingredients

I thought this would spark some interest to software programs. I like the idea. I'll also have to try the google search thing. Without experimentation, there wouldn't be great beer!

Recipe building software from stocked ingredients

Hi fellow brewers. I was wondering if there is software that can build or recommend recipes by inputting stocked ingredients you may have on hand, or if you are searching to use a specific ingredient. For example, I have a certain hop I want to use, I type it in and it could recommend a beer...

Using a bag in mash tun

Hi, I was wondering if I can use a muslin bag or any other bag inside my 10 gal cooler during the mash to make clean-up a little easier. I figure this would help filter during the mash out and when done, just pull out the bag instead of trying to pick up and dump the cooler. I'm not looking to...

    Just a brain storming question

A friend asked me if it is possible to brew by this way: Make your beer and cool it down to your mash temp without pitching the yeast. Now rebrew, with new ingredients, the brew you just made instead of using water. Is there a style for this method? Like I said I was just brainstorming. Sent...

    Can i reuse my yeast

Thanks for the sympathy. There wasn't an airlock on the starter. If I use it, which portion do I use. The sediment in the bottom or the liquid. Also I'm thinking I should use another starter? Is there a way to test the yeast, without spending a ton of money on test equipment?

    Can i reuse my yeast

HI everyone, I have read that you can reuse yeast. However, here is my question and tragedy. My friend and I were brewing a Belgian tripel. This was our first time all grain brewing ourselves. We have been with other friends several times all grain brewing, so we felt comfortable about the...
