    Is 60% efficiency bad?

    I have heard that fly sparging gives a better efficiency I guess I could try a batch sparge. If I get a much higher efficiency would this mean it us ph related. And not the crush. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Ph is something I have not even looked at yet. I have spoken to the brewer at the local brewery which would be on the same water as me and he said he only filters and ads gypsum for pale ales and ipas but he is mostly a lager brewer with a bo pils that's very tasty. I'm not really into water...

    I do crush my own grain . So far have only done single infusion mashing. I fly sparge slowly over about 45 min. Never tried batch sparging.     I just started a brew and thought I'd try playing with my water. I'm doin an American ipa and using strips have a ph around 6 maybe 7. I bought calcium sulfate as lhbs recommended but now I'm not sure when or how to add. Any one able to help while my water heats up
