Longest time Apfelwein left in primary

I let a batch sit from May of last year to February this year, so around 9 months. But in that time I must have missed filling up the airlock as I ended up with some very odorous vinegar. Yes I'm an idiot... that batch was looking great.

What is a large neon beer sign worth?

Thanks for the replies, they are very helpful especially that link. I think it's the 4 foot classic sign which I found listed on 1 site for $425 new. This one isn't new but not a real antique either. I was told a month ago that it was worth $1500 new if bought from the factory but that seems...

What is a large neon beer sign worth?

So a buddy of mine bought a large neon budweiser sign at a benefit auction for a friend of mine who is battling cancer. I can't seem to find anything like it online of this large size and got to thinking, if anyone would know it would be someone on this forum. :) It's about 4-5 feet long...

    Interesting first bigger beer

Just wanted to finish this up. Tried 2 bottles about 20 days after bottling and they both were good except for a severe bubblegum aftertaste. So again I tested a few 5 weeks after bottling and the bubblegum flavor is all but gone. Oak is not at all too powerful so my concern for leaving it...

    Interesting first bigger beer

If I could go back and change one thing, I would have dry hopped another oz of something with the oak chips. But I'll see how it turns out with the stock recipe this time. It's the last pure recipe kit I'll be using. (working on partial mash system now) I love IPAs. I love chilies. The...

    Interesting first bigger beer

Day 47: Bottled tonight and it tastes good. Was worried sitting on oak that long could impart too much oakiness, but it doesn't seem at all overwealming. (at least while warm and flat) FG is at 1.015 (about 6.5%ABV) which is solidly in the projected range. Moral of the story: Time can heal...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Who's afraid of zee-Germans? I tend to let my carbed stuff sit for awhile after pouring, and next batch I'll lower the priming sugar a bit as well. I also just corked my "still" half, CO2 and all, so it's still a bit tingly. (if those ^%&%* corks hold I'm happy) :cross: (batch #2 is...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I used Mott's from Walmart (from concentrate) and it came out great! Batch I'm on now is walmart's store brand (two bucks for three quarts) and so far it's going solid as well.

    Interesting first bigger beer

Relatively steady. I keep a hygrometer/thermometer next to my buckets and carboys that records the 24hr high and low temp. Range was 69-71 which is where it pretty much stays 24/7. Since that's air temp I assume the beer temp varies less.

Difference in diameter of single handled cornys vs dual handle

Are there any functional disadvantages to the 1-handed cornys compared to the 2-handed ones? Only thing I've read is that the walls are not as thick but curious if that has any real effect.

    Interesting first bigger beer

So after getting my feet wet I wanted to try my favorite style of beer, an IPA. Octane IPA kit from Midwest (extract + steep) estimated OG 1.064-1.068 estimated FG 1.012-1.018 Day 1: Brewed it up! Actual OG was 1.067 and it started bubbling away 4-5 hours in. I poured through a sieve...

    Battle of the Bottles

If you find someone who drinks Grolsch in 16 oz flip tops, make friends immediately. :) Most any pop top brown bottles work great, though you can use other colors if you make sure to keep the light out. Can obtain yourself by drinking the contents. Also can salvage them from bars or...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

So for my second batch I upped the sugar slightly and used EC-1118 yeast. (was word for word on first batch) So for 3 days now it's been bubbling nonstop and sort of looks like freshly poured 7-up with the massive amount of bubbles. People are starting to question my sanity as I sit staring at...

Your favorite band just went country!

Tool gone polka! Well, they could do classical. Not so much on the country.
