I started out on those bottles and have not had any problems with this capper... I still use 'em. They're awesome!
Yes, I got it off ebay and it was pretty cheaply priced, but hey! It has not failed me yet, and I've capped at least 8 different kinds of bottles with it! The trick with the...
Tested the yeast I had stored in the fridge.... Yay! it's still good! I have a question though: In extract brewing, can you steep oatmeal (along with your other grains) to increase the body of the final product? ...I don't feel like going to the supply store just to get some carapils.......
The shorter and fatter the bottle, the less beer the wand will displace, thus leaving less head space when removed. I started on the short 11 oz. bottles used by Full Sail Session Ale and still use them (among others) and have not had any problems....
Anyone ever try using B-Brite cleanser/sanitizer in the dishwasher? Well I just did. Ran my bottles through a "heavy" wash cycle with B-Brite and gave it the "heated Dry"... Will advise of any ill-effects, although I don't foresee any; Those bottles were sparkling clean!
I have been able to hold the temp @ 71F inside the fermenter for the last day or two (during the most active fermentation) using a wet-towel wrap. Fermentation began slowing last night and when I got home from work today I noticed the temp has dropped by a degree or a little more. Should I...
It's a fun hobby indeed!!! I'm fermenting my second batch now (a simple extract recipe for a brown ale). My first was a kit for "English Brown Ale". The waiting is the hardest part, but now that it's all done, I have been very much enjoying crackin' open a bottle or two after work. It turned out...
I've heard that it's good to let the temp come up some as fermentation nears completion. I've also heard that the active yeast create a certain amount of heat during fermentation. I live in the desert, am fermenting my second ever batch (brown ale) now. My fermenter is wrapped in an...
Hey, I removed the fermenter lid on day 4 and today to check the SG. Would that have allowed enough of a breath of oxygen in there to oxidize the brew?
Thanx for the advice! I sampled the brew when I checked the gravity... It was exactly the flavor I was hoping for (VERY similar to Newcastle Brown Ale- my favorite)! I think tomorrow I shall go ahead and add the priming sugar and bottle it up. This is my first home brew batch and I can't...
Greetings! I am a newbie brewer and was wondering if there is any reason why you wouldn't want to use your bottling bucket as a secondary fermenter, then just bottle the beer from there when it's ready? Lots of good info on this forum and I would much appreciate any advice. I have my very first...
I am pretty new to the scene of home brewing. What about using a spray mist of pure grain alcohol such as Everclear on already-clean surfaces, siphoning it through tubes, and soaking smaller parts? Would that not be a completely non-adulterating and quite effective sanitizer that could be...
