input on my Evil Twin mini-mash plans

Yep - same hop schedule as the recipe Jamil has posted on his mr. malty site. I had a half ounce each of amarillo and centennial left over that I dry-hopped with in the secondary. I really like how the flavors linger seemingly forever, and the refined bitterness. I'm now a believer of the...

input on my Evil Twin mini-mash plans

Wow - just opened the first bottle after 14 days botttle-conditioning and 24hrs in the fridge. Outstanding brew. Nice malty backbone and wonderful hop flavor. I dry hopped with 1oz for 7 days prior to bottling but basically used the mr. malty recipe. Will be making this one again for sure...

    whirlpooling via pump

Thanks guys - sounds like it'll work for me. My plan is to replace my current boil kettle (10gal polarware) with the 9.2gal Stout tank with tangential inlet, and then repurpose the polarware as a mash tun or HLT. BK

    whirlpooling via pump

Thinking about adding boil kettle whirlpool capability to current setup. This will give me an excuse to get a second 10gal kettle and my first pump. If I understand correctly, I can keep using pellet hops and my 50ft immersion chiller, and the March pump will tolerate all the break...

Laboratory "Corneys" what did I find?

You'll have to use your best judgement on how clean is clean enough. Remove all the fittings, visually inspect, clean with one or more aqueous cleaning agents and maybe also an organic like acetone, give it the sniff test. I doubt you could actually measure trace levels of potential nasties...

Laboratory "Corneys" what did I find?

Careful. I used that type of pressure dispense can in my research lab to deliver various nasty chemical mixtures. Unless you know their history, I would think twice about using them for food/beverage applications.... BK

    Drilling for elements

Zoom in to the tool....says 35mm on the side. 35mm = 1.37795276 inches. Lacks the thrust bearing of a Greenlee, but the price is definitely right. BK

    my first mash tun!

Just started the boil on Jamil's Evil Twin. Manifold and fittings worked awesome! I slightly crimped the 90 degree "street" fitting with pliers for security and deemed the silicone hose slip-fit onto the copper tubing to be rock solid. Didn't use any zipties or clamps. Conditioned the...

    my first mash tun!

That was exactly my plan! The corners of the copper assembly are snug against the interior of the cooler, so the main assembly is rock solid. BK

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Do I get bonus points for showing an actual starter currently underway? Built with a Brewers Hardware pcb, plastic project box and various parts harvested from around the house. BK

Will do! Yeast starter is underway... BK

    my first mash tun!

What do you guys think? 5gal rubbermaid. 1/2" copper tubing, hacksaw cuts at 1/4" pitch, cleaned with PBW followed by vinegar. Rotated one section to show the cuts (not soldered). The stout Brewers Hardware bulkhead looks like it'll work great! Held hot water just fine with no sign of...

input on my Evil Twin mini-mash plans

I'm planning a mini-mash version of Jamil's Evil Twin to suit my equipment and progression into all-grain. I first input an all-grain recipe into Beersmith and then played with the Liquid Extract and Maris Otter British Pale Malt quantities to get similar OG values. Plan is to mash all the...
