    Six Pack Caddy

Received a surprise and early Christmas gift from my Girlfriend. A nice wooden six pack caddy, to bring my empty bottles home, and full ones back when I come back next week. She found it at Walgreens of all places. Sturdy and durable with a attached opener.

Bitter Bald Guy / 1187 Ringwood Ale yeast problem

Yesterday I brewed up a batch of the Bitter Bald Guy (recipe below), I added 1# of rice hulls as I do when using flaked corn, just be sure the sparge does not stick. Also added 2qts of additional water. I also did use 1187 Ringwood Ale yeast since I had it on hand, I have used this in the...

Wort Chilling on a (WATER) Budget

Should have mentioned, this is for 5G batches, so I might be close. Adding ice to the reservoir is an option also. Those temeratures were taken today, so earlier and later in the year I am better off, but probably screwed in the dead of summer!

Wort Chilling on a (WATER) Budget

Being on a well I am limited as to how much water I can just "pump" to chill wort. This had not been an issue doing extract and partial mash brews. Now going to whole grain I am posed with the problem, and I need advice on my solution, I have a 55G rain barrel (ambient temp is 73, temp at...

    1st All Grain Batch

I have finally got all my utensils together, and will try an All Grain Batch shortly. I am looking for a recipe that if all goes terribly wrong, will not cost me much. I do not see that scenario happening BUT...... Murphys Law. I have a 2.5 oz of East Kent Goldings and 1 oz of Hallertau Hops...

    MLT Screen

I am setting up my all grain brewing station and need on last item for the MLT, a screen. What are opinions on the False bottom vs Bazooka Screen. The Bazooka is considerable cheaper, but do they clog?

    Building a Mash Lauter Tun

Sorry, yes, fly sparging was the route I was going.

    Building a Mash Lauter Tun

In my last post it became evident that a 10G MLT was required at minimum. Now my question is regarding shape, is round preferred over rectangular? Are there posts with what are considered best designs out there, most all I have seen are round, and one or two square?

    Advancing to All-Grain (5G MLT)

Well thank you all for your replies, I cannot argue with experience, as I have no one to argue with. So I guess I will go the 10 gallon route.

    Advancing to All-Grain (5G MLT)

I generally do IPAs, Wheats, Clones, etc. nothing above 6 or 7% max, if you are sparging during wort collection (continuous sparging), seems 5G would work. Correct me if I am wrong as this is all new to me and I am just now starting the research phase.

    Advancing to All-Grain (5G MLT)

I am going to advance from extracts with grain to all grain brewing. I have a brew kettle, albeit aluminum, but never used for anything. I have all the stuff to make a 5 gallon mash lauter tun, (5G IGLOO Water Container) but I see where a lot of post suggest 5 gallons is too small, is this...
