    COLD CRASH vs LAGERING

Sure you can. The only reason to bring temps down slowly is if your yeast isn't finished yet. Let the yeast finish at fermentation temps and crash it. Cold crash it and then lager it.

    COLD CRASH vs LAGERING

The author of How to Brew has since gone on air and specifically stated otherwise, BTW. Check out the Brew Strong episode on Lagering.

    COLD CRASH vs LAGERING

Lagering is a verb Lager is a noun The use of one does not necessarily produce the other. No matter which beer you store at cold temperatures, you are lagering it. The lagering phase is in place to drop things out of solution, not to let yeast "clean things up." Let the yeast finish at...

    New 10 Gallon Herms! Pics!

Thanks Another question: What is 50785k94 part for? I got it from the parts list and it's in the same listing as the any-which-way but I don't see the relationship between them. Thanks again

    New 10 Gallon Herms! Pics!

Finally getting some more time to look into this. I don't understand how you keep the stoppers in place for the thermometers. Are they just shoved in the holes and they hold up?

    Leaving hydrometer in secondary

Yes, absolutely. I didn't imply that it is not fermenting. I was simply pointing out that there is a difference in "primary fermentation" and "primary fermenters." http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter8-2-2.html I don't want my beer to be 100% complete when I rack. I still want to...

    Brewers Best Pils

I'm assuming this was an extract kit? If so, my first and only Pilsner extract kit did the same thing. If you boiled the extract for any length of time, you helped the extract have maillard reactions (browning as you would see on caramalized onions, the black parts on a steak, etc). Before I...

    Leaving hydrometer in secondary

This is true, but a matter of personal preference. "Primary fermentation" by definition may be over before you ever get close to FG. I frequently rack to a secondary after Krausen has fallen. I've done the hydrometer in a secondary thing before and the most difficult things were keeping it...

    O'Dell 90 Shilling Clone help

In the 90/-, would you want a .5 BU/GU ratio? I would think that it would be lower than that.

    Disapointed in this Turkey Fryer

+1 I've brewed probably 20 batches on this thing over the past 7 months and I have no issues with it. I did not install the upright stabilizers and I cut the lead to the safety probe. Also, I don't even use the regulator ON the stand. That's all the way up. I use the regulator on the...

    Not hitting FG (too high!)

Yeah, I'd say that helped your high(er) FG. I'm absolutely certain the beer is going to taste good though.
