    Digital Refracometer

Should this work for wort brix/OG? Hannah Instruments 96804 Invert Sugar Analysis http://www.hannainst.com/Usa/prods2.cfm?id=039001&ProdCode=HI%2096804 Im pretty sure it will be just fine. Just wanted to confirm. Also, how accurate is "alcohol correction" charts/calculators for...

About to throw in the towel.....

And by temp I'm gonna guess you mean ambient temp. Your actual fermentation temp could easily be in the 70s.

    Tower of Power is out...

Lol.. You're comparing a phase angle controller to a PID controlled SSR... It COMPLETELY different... You can't control mash temperature automatically with your phase angle... I own both types of controllers for good reason, they perform different tasks. I will agree that a phase angle is...

    Hard cider

its not as simple as it seems and its a waste of time.. not to mention its illegal.. May be taboo to speak of it here... "Jacking" concentrates everything, including the bad byproducts of fermentation. I think its a waste of time unless you're trying to extract alcohol from something that...

Ghetto hard apple cider. . .what to expect.

Whats wrong with bread yeast? It ferments pretty clean if you keep it under 10%.. Doesnt lend much flavor... I'd never use it again though. I'd rather use the proper tool and get a better flavor. Answer the question with facts or be on your way.. Nobody cares about your unfounded opinions...

    Confused about efficiency?

You need to know your exact batch size after the boil.. you need to take the readings at 60F (depending on your hardware).. you need to measure all your ingredients exactly... any of these variables will make efficiency calculations messed up.. My guess is you used a hot wort sample...

I mangled my yeast starter - True story

It should have been 1.5 cups DME in 6 cups of water.... You're probably a bit under 1.040. If anything you need more DME, not more water. I say leave it.. It should be fine

I mangled my yeast starter - True story

Not to be argumentative, but, my understanding is that this is untrue. Yeast starters should be done at an "optimal" SG, regardless of what the SG of the beer it is intended for will be. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    thought on chiller

Did you look at the link? I really doubt your water costs anywhere near that much. Its just the monthly fees for having water service that are costing so much. Call the number on the bill and ask them how much the actual water costs you.
