    biere de garde stuck fermentation

No starter. This was my fourth batch and I will start using them next batch. I ran the beer through a fine kitchen strainer for aeration. I have since learned that this method may not be enough. If I were to create a starter, aerate, and pitch new yeast, would the fact that this beer has been...

    biere de garde stuck fermentation

I am working with a partial Castelain biere de garde clone. It is a five gallon recipe with an OG of 1.062 and I pitched one packet of Wyeast 1338. It claims that the yeast is slow to attenuate but this is ridiculous. A little over a week ago a checked the gravity and it was at 1.040. Three...

    Four days, no airlock activity.

another _ days, no airlock activity post, but I'm a little concerned. I'm brewing a partial Castellain blond biere de garde recipe with Wyeast European Ale Yeast #1338. It does claim to be a slow starter but being on my fourth batch, this is new to me. OG was 1.061, four days later, it is at...

co2 and krausen in the secondary

I am working with a Unibroue Blanche de Chambly Clone. I followed all recipe instructions, fermented in the primary for 9 days. There was still some Krausen on the top but the Gravity reading was dead on so I transferred to a secondary. Four days in the secondary and the airlock is releasing...

    recipe description vs. gravity reading

oh... and I think I just got what you were implying... that the ale pail may not actually be at 5 gallons when it reads as so. I have filled with a measured five gallon amount and it is right on.

    recipe description vs. gravity reading

What would create inaccuracies in the ale pail? I assume it is best to siphon off enough wort into a glass large enough to house the hydrometer? Thanks everyone for your comments, learning a lot as I go!

    recipe description vs. gravity reading

Hello all. I have two questions. Firstly, I am working with extract. Is it better to follow the recommended gallon amount per the recipe or to stop filling the fermenter post boil when gravity requirements are met? Secondly, stirring a boiling wort... how often? at all? Thanks in...

My first beer is in the primary...

I have a similiar question. For my recent (yesterday) Belgian Golden Ale recipe, I started with 2.5 gallons of water. By the end of the boil, my quantity was reduced to around 2 gallons. My recipe guide from the homebrew store tells to fill to five gallons. Instead of this, I filled my fermenter...

    Greetings!

New brewer from MA! Good to see all this helpful information online. Currently on my second brew, a Belgian Golden recipe from my local retailer, and feeling pretty good about it. Glad to have a place to voice my desperate concerns while learning the ropes.
