I have over the years on this forum become more and more transparent about the things going on in my life, where I live, and meeting members as I travel. This includes pictures, wife's name, area I live in, general occupational things, places I will be, etc. I have seen others do this as well.

I think that it's testament to this site that people feel comfortable here and do these things as naturally as they do in real life, however you should be aware of what you might be posting.

I've noticed people posting things that can personally identify themselves IRL in conjunction with medical condition information, legal matters, ethical matters, etc.

All of these things are crawled by google, yahoo, et al.

If you are a supporting member, there are areas that you can post in that are behind a search engine wall. That's something that you should take advantage of if you are a supporting member and something to consider if you are not.

I've also seen post where people discuss in the open areas of the forum and in the chat, items that were specifically posted in Member section for a reason. I know it's difficult to keep it straight sometimes, but let's try to be more aware about this type of thing, please.

Excellent advice. Can I also add that if you happen to see something that might fall into this category that you PM the poster or let a mod know ASAP, so that it can be addressed?

Just for fun, google yourself. Full name. see what pops up.

Then, google your screen name used in forums. You'll be suprised.

Caution- Don't mention bottling brunette in HBT, when you have red head over on weekends.:mug:

Then, hurry up and joing so you can edit and delete posts.

Oh boy - Desert Monkey is a UK grunge metal band....

Thanks for posting this up olllllo - having a job where I see the internal workings of credit card fraud, people can never be careful enough out in cyberspace.

Good bump.

When I google I get a guy with the same name that kicks hippies out of trees when their tree-sitting! hahah

My real name is quite common when it comes to googling. Apparantly I'm an actor in Sundance films, a baseball player for the San Diego Padres, and currently serving in my fourth term as City Council representative of Ogden UT's Municipal Ward 1

I also have a hate group dedicated to me on MySpace. :D

The handle 'Fingers' brings back 103,000,000 hits.

I googled my real name and got a lot of professionals and artists and one beer swilling loser. Damn.

I am a pornographer (well, fine arts photographer) and a notorious child killer, among other things. Beat that.

I'm always disappointed when I google myself in various ways....but hell, 98EXL, that guy is an ******* who lives in maryland :D

I found several thousand hits worldwide (mostly Europe) and only a couple hundred here in AZ. Apparently I'm pretty boring and mostly dead.:rockin:

I am a gay porn star, noted for having a very large penis and a line of sex toys modeled after it.

I disagree on the second part, after googling for my name, the results for my screenname weren't very surprising. :p

turns out, I'm gay, an artist, a professor and a book writer...

oh and I live in the UK, I often visit the states to murder people for the thrill and it gives me a chance to catch up on writing that novel I've been working on for 3 years.

With the exception of some guy named Russel who has my username for his myspace profile, I'm the only McKBrew out there as far as google goes.

Huh, whodathunk Ofry's real name would be Brae Haus?

Not surprisingly, shecky turns up thousands of hits for Shecky Greene. Mostly, shecky seems to be some sort of nationwide nightlife search sight.

My real name, though uncommon, brings up 33,000 hits. I'm not surprised given my job. It puts my name out in cyberspace almost daily.

I think the credit companies google my name and apply whatever hits to my account. How do they manage to add an item for a person with the same first and last name, different middle name, different SSN, different state of residence, different age, different everything, except first and last? It's not like the name is common, there's only three of us in the country. But every year, I have to waste time straightening things out. Wouldn't be so bad, but the guy in Alabama is a deadbeat!
