I recently picked up some WLP518 Opshaug Kveik yeast at my LHBS. White labs recommends using this for Pale Ales and IPAs. This will be my first time using any kveik yeast. Thing is, I have a couple of kegs of pale ale and IPA, and what I’d really like to brew is the Numero Uno clone recipe published by BYO, it being summer and all. A few questions:

1. Is this yeast OK to use for a pseudo-lager? I’m not sure what all the differences are in the various kveik strains and I don’t know if this particular one is suitable for fermenting a pseudo-lager.

2. If the yeast is ok, what temps should I pitch/ferment at for a pseudo lager? I have fermentation temp control via an inkbird connecting to a fermentation heat wrap and an upright freezer in my garage, where the ambient temp is in the 80s these days. I also have a new tilt so I can track the fermentation.

3. If the yeast isn’t ok for a pseudo-lager, is there a dry strain that I could mail order that would be better? I don’t want to mail order liquid yeast this time of year.

Thanks!

I'm thinking along the same lines. I recently bought some Voss Kveik liquid yeast and want to try it on a pale ale with German Hops. Due to space, lagering is nearly impossible even for a small batch, <3 gal, but I am looking for that smooth taste and the slight sweet Marzen we get from imported brews.

Today I am brewing for the second time a German AltBeir but will be using Safale K-97. Temp says ok for what I have, which is a steady 74 deg. Last one I made with Safale US-05 and this one is the same kit from Northern Brewer.

Hoping to celebrate Oktoberfest from South Louisiana.

This yeast is clean, I used it for a cream ale that I wanted in a hurry. Worked out fine. Unlike some kveik this is not estery. I pitched at WL recommendEd temp.
