I have distilled a few times using my SS Brewtech pot.. not the best but it has worked. I got temped by the Vevor stills and you could by from Home Depot for $105.. the metal thickness was a slightly above aluminum foil and when I did my first distillation the lid ruptured and sprayed me with about 170 degree wash, a couple hours at the hospital and 2nd degree burns on 9% of my body, I would say pass on this still, but as always YMMV.

9% is a lot and burns suck!! But you know both of those things. Glad you are well enough to be home to recover now.
Thankfully it is a light 2nd degree burns...after the first day the pain is gone, just red and some blisters, just wanted to share that a $500+ savings is not worth it.

That looks like less than 9% surface area covered with dressings.

2nd degree burn by definition is the blistered areas.
Redness that doesn't blister is 1st degree burn.

A common mistake made by doctors who aren't burns specialists.

Still sore though, I will leave the distilling to my neighbour.

15minutes of cool running water ( not ice cold ) recommended first aid for all burns ANZBA.

Yeah, I suspect she rounded up, and my arm is not too bad..may 1.5 degree burns, it is starting to blister a little but not the falling off skin I have on my abdomen area.

So sorry this happened to you!

When you say the lid "ruptured" do you mean the still was building up pressure?

I don't often say this (I'm not sure I've ever said this), but: you should sue someone over this.
Burns do suck. I've had severe 2nd degree burns. Luckily they didn't scar, but that skin is still slightly darker 30 years later. As far as suing, though, what are you going to say? "I was doing something illegal and expressly forbidden, and it blew up on me"?

Strange ever since this thread I'm now getting Vevor stills in my youtube offerings. Someones watching me.

Two more examples: 1) Tiktok and Amazon echo and Siri listen to voices. For tiktok, even when the app is closed. It will then brazenly offer tiktok videos mathing keywords to the T, just like your Vevor experience. Stay away from these!
2) A major email company (sounds like Yeehaw!) openly states their tech reads your emails tailor the services. You read that right! It clearly states that in their privacy pages.

This is how Home Depot markets it. VEVOR 8 Gal. Alcohol Distiller Stainless Steel Double Thumper Keg Home Brewing Kit with Copper Tube and Water Pump ZLSJ8GALSLNTZLQDBV1 - The Home Depot

I am just the stupid consumer.😜 I should have been a bit smarter and returned it right away when I did not have a PRV.

Wow. Pass on this still: YMMV ... depending on how you feel about pain and serious injury?

Yeah, I am not sue happy person or after a payday but it would be nice to see Home Depot pull this item..I did contact them and they are turning over to their insurance company but I have friend who is an attorney, he deals with auto accidents and similar claims but he said I have good claim and to not take their first offer since it would be about 5% of what they would actually pay and he referred me to a product liability attorney that I will.contact once I hear back from Home Depot.

Wow, this is a sad situation! Hope you recover well!

I bought a cheap alternative to the same still, I'll tread with caution! Been ok so far, but wow man, that's nasty :(

Can you please post a picture of the damaged Vevor?
Stupid me did not take any pics and I was going to throw it in the recycling but returned it Home Depot for a full refund...when the clerk asked the reason she got a view of all my bandages.. the lid was warped between two of the latches.

A little slow on the reply, but hope you are on the mend.

Thanks for the warning. I've been snooping around researching the basics of distilling and considering the merits of simple pots stills and more expensive fractionals for making distilled water and such. Will write the Vevor off the potential list.

Vervor brand has showed up in several places when I've looked for commercial tools, from diamond core drills to forklift seats. No surprise they are made in China. They have a lot of ebay listings, surprised home despot decided to carry their products.

As to the tools, I did buy a core drill from them and it was a bit off center. semi OK for a throw away tool, same quality as hazzard frieght.

Seems the kettle was incapable of holding a proper seal pressure. To say that flaw was a "bit off center" is a hazardous understatement.
This is a good reason to like HBT. The people make the forum!
