Simpsons heritage crystal bitter/astringent?

Hi!

I am trying to pinpoint some unexpected bitterness/astringency in my last ordinary bitter I brewed. The taste reminds me of what I got from amber malt and some brown malts, which was totally unpleasant. It aged out after about half a year though.

Did you guys experience the same with heritage crystal from Simpsons? It is the only variable that could be the reason actually in this case.

How much do you use? I've used it up to 3-4% and can't say I've noticed any of what you're getting. It does have a different kind of taste though, to me at least.

Could have said that actually.....

I think it was something around 5%, maybe a bit more. With a low og and fg.
