Hello everyone,
Started with a KilKenny Clone recipe, and modified it to stay within and Irish Red style. My intentions are to use up some on hand grains, and make something to pour on my nitro tap.
Brew Method: All Grain
Style Name: Irish Red Ale
Boil Time: 90 min
Batch Size: 7 gallons (fermentor volume)
Boil Size: 9 gallons
Boil Gravity: 1.037
Efficiency: 75% (brew house)
STATS:
Original Gravity: 1.047
Final Gravity: 1.012
ABV (standard): 4.59%
IBU (tinseth): 27.11
SRM (morey): 16.16
FERMENTABLES:
7 lb - Canadian - Pale 2-Row (56.7%)
2.94 lb - United Kingdom - Golden Promise (23.8%)
1.41 lb - American - Caramel / Crystal 60L (11.4%)
1 lb - American - Caramel / Crystal 120L (8.1%)
HOPS:
0.9 oz - Challenger, Type: Pellet, AA: 7, Use: Boil for 90 min, IBU: 20.6
0.64 oz - Fuggles, Type: Pellet, AA: 4.5, Use: Boil for 15 min, IBU: 4.37
0.64 oz - Golding, Type: Pellet, AA: 5.5, Use: Boil for 5 min, IBU: 2.14
Aimed for:
Lower ABV - dropped 2 row
Using up golden promise in place of 2 row
Using up 60 entirely
Use 120 to adjust recipe
Lowered challenger 90 min to follow lower grain bill
Force carb to 2 volumes CO2, served Nitro (comments pls!)
Also, I intend on doing an experiment: Ferment main batch of 5.5 gal with Irish Ale Yeast, WLP004, separate out 2, 3/4 gal jugs and pitch Saflager - German Lager Yeast S-23, and Safale - English Ale Yeast S-04.
First time making any amount of changes to someone's recipe, certainly open to criticism.
Thanks in advance!
