I'm in the process of building a 3 pot, 30 gallon system. Not a lot of specs are truly needed other than it not having a HERMS coil, and that the burners will need to be table-top style based on how I am setting up my system.

By my calculations, the typical propane tank is capable of 58,000 BTU/hr output. With an expected efficiency of around 20 percent, it should take just shy of 2 hours to heat the HLT to strike temp, and about 45 minutes to heat the Mash to Boil.
That said, it doesn't really matter what a burner can rate itself at above 58k BTU, but I know there are conflicting reports of what the actual BTU ratings are of these commercial burners.
A few questions:

1. Can someone give me some burner recommendations?
2. Do I really need a burner for my mash tun if I am transporting strike and sparge from my HLT and have the ability to recirculate within the MT.

For reference, think of the spike system, but propane and without a herms coil.

Thanks in advance.
