Alien-like Squid Filmed at Ultra-Deep Oil-Drilling Site

A mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) underwater, a remote control submersible's camera has captured an eerie surprise: an alien-like, long-armed, andstrangest of all"elbowed" Magnapinna squid.

Awesome.

We don't know much more about the deep oceans than we do about the surface of Mars. There's some cool stuff in the deep, deep places of our world.

I believe they were referring to one of the species where they haven't found any adults yet.

The recent video marks the first sighting of a Magnapinna at an oil development

The subtlety of those variations makes it impossible to identify which species is in the oil-rig video

I think it is a bit newer than you think... this class of species was identified in 1998 and, of the 4 they know of within it, they have had no reliable specimen.
