The University of Kentucky will be offering a webinar, "Hops 101", on Thursday, May 7, from 2-3:15 p.m. EDT. UK Horticulture Specialist Dr.
Shawn Wright, who has been conducting hops research at the Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability, will present information about basic hops production. I have attached a flyer you can use to share information about the webinar. They have also been posting recorded webinars to their website: http://www.uky.edu/Ag/CCD/webinars.html

It was all right. Its fairly easy to tell Dr. Wright doesn't have a lot of experience. My only problem is how little attention he gave to harvest and post harvest. "Harvest" was 1 line and drying was a slide showing a dryer that would hold about 1 plant's worth of cones. I've found most people can get them to grow and keep them disease/pest free but its when it comes to harvest that everything goes to heck in a handbasket.

You have to remember that it was geared towards people that that are starting at square one of hops growing. It may be less helpful if you have been growing hops for the past decade.

In Kentucky, we are dealing with hot and humid summers (consistently 90+F and 85% RH). It leads to a lot of disease pressures. Plus seeing how downy mildew was a major factor that drove hops production west.

True the processing is important but without getting production down there will be nothing to harvest and dry.
